Default Good oil for the VLSD

I have read in the forum about using a 75W90 GL-5 but I don't know if this oil is good for the normal diff (base model) or if it is good also for the model with the limited slip differential.

Any help?

Well the Viscous Limited Slip unit has it's own housing since it's using a special kind of fluid. Doesn't matter kind of oil you use in the rest of the diff since the Viscous part is sealed.

I would go on Nissans recommendations with a 75-90w GL-5 rated oil from a larger brand.

Castrol
Motul
Redline
Mobil1
Valvoline etc.

It's a VLSD. Read up on how they work, and you'll realize there's absolutely no point in running anything more than non-synthetic gear oil. Anything more is a waste of money.

So, synthetic is a waste of money?

For a VLSD, I would say yes. I'd just use regular nissan gear oil.

If you have an aftermarket clutch type lsd that has clutch plates constantly slipping and rubbing and engaging, then you should look into more higher end gear oils, but VLSD is completely isolated and works on fluid pressure rather than mechanical friction.

i changed my diff fluid to motul and couldn't be more happier...i understand what some of you are saying about it being a waste of $ for the vlsd but the way i see it is, me being the car owner, i only want the best fluids going into my car, might be a waste of money, probably is, but if the car is running fine and you think it actually makes a difference, then so be it. i don't think it will hurt anything.

I thought you can't change the fluid in the VLSD's?

Typically a visco-differential that has covered 60,000 miles or more will be functioning largely as an open differential; this is a known weakness of the original Eunos Roadster sports car. The silicone oil is factory sealed in a separate chamber from the gear oil surrounding the rest of the differential. This is not serviceable and when the diff's behaviour deteriorates, the VLSD centre is replaced.
From Wiki... that's what I meant... there's no way to prolong the life of a VLSD by changing the silicone oil because it's sealed... so does changing the gear oil help???
