i've noticed a "ringing" noise coming from what i believe is the engine or the undercarriage of the car when i press the gas. you can only hear it when the windows are down but i first noticed it when going into the parking garage at work.

my car is lowered and on one occasion i hit a bump where i felt the car "bottom out" quite hard (loud noise). i'm not sure if they're related but i started noticing the ringing after this happened (could just be coincidence).

any ideas on what the problem could be? i'm having it checked by the dealer this weekend.

 

I can imagine a lot of different kind of ringing noises. Ringing like an old rotary phone? Ringing like the liberty bell?

its more like a faint "clinging" noise mixed with a hum...lol. i'm not sure how to explain it but its definitely not normal.

 

Is the engine running when you hear it?

It may be the throttle body.

The throttlebody is drive by wire and it adjusts it open/closed position based on Electrical Pulse Width variation of duty cycle.

It makes a faint buzzing kind of sound. Could this be what you are hearing?

Listen directly to your throttle body and see if thats it.

 

EXACTLY!! i have the same problem ,, and it start pissin me off.. 2day i took it to the dealer for that ,, its on the right side and only the driver side can heart ,, you can hear it when u shift from 2nd to 3rd with low rpm and the Push the gas u will hear it clearly ,, 2moro ill get my car back when they tell me whats wrong ill let you know

Sound like valve ping to me. Is your Z 2006 ? Doed the sound go away after you pass 3000 RPM ?

 

where do people come up with this

 

Open the hood and try revving in neutral to better isolate the noise. Even better is to record the sound and post it.

 

is valve ping actually a technical term or are we resorting to making things up

I think this could be clutch injection or brake viscosity.

 

He said he hears ringing noise from the engine when he steps on the gas.
My 06 Z also makes this type of noise when I step on the gas in 2nd or 3rd gear and my RPM's are bellow 3000. This was diagnosed as valve chatter / ping (perhaps not the correct technical term but u know what I mean).
So i dont quite understand your question Wired. Are you saying that I made this up ?

 

You can hear the injectors without a problem on this engine. Your valves should be pretty quiet. Maybe the injector noise is what you're talking about?

I've seen some people get confused between the two before.
