Default chips hmm?

so i pulled into a gas station and got to talking with a gentlemen who was spying my z saying how he use to have one as well on an hks turbo and all this and how he started it out with and hks chip and how a chip does alot to the z engine. ( a performance chip) . My question is, im not to educated on performance chips, but are they worth getting and which are better then others? and also what do they do to the car in the sense of specs.

Thanx for reading

Chips are good with hot dogs. I hope you're not talking about the $9 chips that simulate a lower intake temperature... Was that guy at the filling station named Gomer? Seriously, our cars respond to ROM reprogramming (reflashing), assuming you have other engine mods to suit. Search for Osiris, Accessport, Technosquare, and you'll have a good start on what you need to know. There is a whole section here devoted to that (Tuning).

rofl...I HATE HATE HATE when people refer to them as a "chip"...so stupid. go read. there are ECU reflashes, piggy-back ECU's and standalone ECU's....no such thing as a chip for a 350Z. HKS only makes superchargers for 350Z by the way. dude lied. was just making **** up as he went along.

They just released twins from HKS. Since the guy at the gas station "had" them and got rid of them already, unless he installed them last week and drove directly to the dealer to trade his car in, there is almost no way his story is valid. Furthermore, dumping money on HKS only to tune with something besides Fcon/Haltech/ProEFI I would think sounds unlikely

Why do people try to blow smoke up others' asses, here, at the gas station, at work? That reminds me of that guy with the 'supercharged' Z that had 'about' 12psi, outfitted by JCWhitney, and proceeded to tell the two guys in the car next to him all kinds of BS.

OBD2 did away with "chips" back in 1995-1996 as there is no longer a simple single [chip] place where all WOT parameters were burnedin and stored.

Not KNOWING this and the rest of automotive technology leaves you wide open to snake oil and wasting money on gimmicks.
