Make sure you are not on the throttle at all when you push in the clutch pedal. Solves the problem for me...the 'clunk' only happens if I get too sloppy...

I have an 07 6MT with 2000 miles and I get the same clunking sound when going from 1st to 2nd. It doesn't matter if the car is hot or cold it will still do it and its accompanied by a grinding feeling in the shifter. I took it to the dealer back in December (then I only had 500 miles) and they said its performing as it should. A few things I notice, as some others have mentioned, when I put the clutch in I hear a rattling noise (irritating) and if i shift at low RPMs the 9 out of 10 times it shifts smooth, but up at about 3000 RPM then it almost always clunks. If i wait a fraction of a second and then shift it goes in smooth or if i hold the shifter below the **** then sometimes I can angle it in without the clunk. This kinda takes the fun out of driving and it feels like too much of a compramise on a brand new car. Has there been any official word from Nissan about this?

I've experienced a clunk like "gear slap" in the diff when shifting fast or hard.

I have this same problem with my 06 has 12k miles. I found 1st gear at 2k rpm shift fast and no clunk then the next spot is 4k where u can shift slower no clunk anything out of those spots for me you get the clunk and nasty rattle noise. But its alright.

I have an 05 with 9000 miles and i get it from 1st to 2nd and sometimes 2nd to 3rd. I would describe it as more of a popping sound than a clunk and i can feel it on my foot thru the pedal when it happens. its 95 degrees here and its happening so its not the cold. Has anyone had any luck getting this fixed at the dealership?

My 06 has clunked almost since I had it. I got the car brand new only 23 miles on it. I notice the "clunk" from 1st to 2nd like everyone says and a "rattle" occasionally when clutching to ease into a parking spot or up at a light. I asked Nissan and they said it was normal for our cars.

I have to agree though it is an awful sound. Kinda embarrassing when you pull up in a nice car and then it starts making weird sounds! lol

I dunno if it's something worry about or not.

Surely "clunks" can't be healthy... ?

the m/t are noisy but extremely stout, especially the 009.

Well you've already gotten a million posts about it, but yes,.. mine does it too. '04 Touring

I even made a post (apparently in the wrong place) about it too...

I guess its just normal.. I hate to think that it is, but I guess it is. I almost say Nissan should do a recall on those because it

1- makes it seem like I dont know how to drive

or

2 - sounds like something is wrong with the car... but as everyone else has mentioned .. every other gear goes in nice and smooth. /shrug

and if I give it enough 'finesse' it goes in smooth, but I really shouldnt have to.

I've had the same experience with my tranny.
I have an 05 Enthu. and every time I put it into the 2nd gear, it made either the "clunk" noise or just pure grinding noise.
And no, it wasn't my fault. I heard the grinding noise only when I shifted really softly.

So I took it to Performance Nissan a couple weeks ago.
Really nice people, thanks again to those who helped me out there!
They replaced my tranny with cd009.

The thing is.... it feels like it's gonna start grinding again...
So, now, I just double clutch when going into the 2nd gear.

Mine used to make the noise quite noticeably. I changed the rear diff and trans fluids last night to Redline Synthetic fluids (make sure you do research and purchase the right kinds if you do it!). The clunk is still there although it has gotten alot quieter since the fluid change.

Never really bothered me though.. when I first got the car I was worried. However, everyone I talked to told me the same thing they're telling you right now.
