Default unexpected noise

My Z is a 2008 with 1400 miles on it. When I put the transmission in neutral and let out the clutch, with the windows down, I can hear an extra sound. I know it's the engine driving the input shaft of the transmission not connected to anything. When I put the clutch back in, I can hear the input shaft slowing to a stop in a few seconds. It doesn't really sound bad. And I can't hear it with the windows up. I just don't recall ever being about to hear this on any other car. The car drives great. Oh, and there's a bit on a rpm drop when I let the clutch out in neutral. The engine recovers from the extra load in less than a second and maintains the idle rpm. That's also unexpected. Is this a bearing on the input shaft going bad?

What you are describing sounds normal. If you're really concerned, go to a dealership and crank up another manual Z. Push the clutch in and out and see if it makes the same noise.

Take a look in the Maintenance section. There's many threads in there about various noises from the clutch/tranny/flywheel that may help you.

It's not the bearing going bad it's just the bearing spinning on the pressure plate. Nothing but normal.

Nothing to worry about, this is just one of the known nuances of the Z car. RelaX
