im looking to do the 3.9 final drive swap on my 07 5at i was reading into this and could not find a clear answer on what is needed to install this gear ratio on the automatic if anyone could explian what i need to purchase to do so i can worry about having it all installed afterwards

You will need a 6MT diff as well as a complete rebuild.

 

why the knew diff what is differant?

 

The ring gear on the 3.3VLSD is thicker.

 

Second that...the case is different to accept the different gears also. If you want the 3.9 gears you will need a 6mt pumpkin to make it work!

 

is it worth all that work on an auto Z? someone told me that if i bought 3.9 gears for my 5AT that i would need new bearings and something else from nissan for like 250

sounds like a good idea so all i need is the 3.9 final drive kit and then a 6mt pumpkin or is there more to it

 

just get a 6mt pumpkin with the 3.5 gear in it first. see how you like it, if it still is not quick enough for you then go with the 3.9.

Look in the private classifieds....for a while, there was several guys looking to swap out the pumpkins.
