Borla Dynos!!! The truth is in here... finally!!!

The ratio would only be realistic if you paid $30k for a VQ35 engine alone.
I personally paid $35k for a sports car, wheels, suspension, tranny, & engine.
You could get one hell of an engine for $30k if you just wanted a crate motor.
---- I'll add my opinion in on the dyno's:
Immediately after installing my borla, I could say that I felt absolutely no gain. I'm convinced that after a few miles is when not only the sound came alive, the increase in performance did too. As I posted in another thread, I played around with putting the car in high gears in low speed to check out any increase in pull and there's a definite increase in torque at least (no doubt in my mind).
I think the ECU needs a few miles to make its adjustments, rather than unplugging it for 24 hours or running it back to back after a mod.
I'm not an expert by all means, but I'm quite a skeptic when it comes to performance bolt-ons. The aftermarket industry is full of BS claims and overhype, so I purchased this exhaust for the sound/look with any small performance as a bonus. I'm impressed, surprised, and I'll easily say it exceeded my expectations.
Okie dokie... Good news is we gained rwhp and torque; bad news is that it's not quite as much as I had hoped it would be (I was hoping for 10 rwhp). For the max numbers, we gained 6.8 rwhp and 6.8 torque (the torque gain is very nice). The torque increase is relatively even from 3,500 rpm through 6,400 which I really like -- love torque! We've also got a nice steady rwhp gain from about 4,000 rpm through 6,400. Overall, it's a nice gain because it's pretty even in my normal driving rpm range.
For the techno folks, the runs were 48 hours and 30 seconds apart. They were done on the same Dynojet 224, the same operator, the same time of day, and on the same tank of gas. As many variables as possible were reduced in order to have the same conditions. For comparison purposes, the charts are SAE corrected. A little over 200 miles were put on the car after the exhaust installation, with over a dozen triple digit runs in 5th gear (the gear for the dyno runs). A lot of heavy accelerations to redline were also done. Mileage was 3,775 for the baseline and 3,990 for the Borla run. The car has a completely stock air intake. These runs were done at the 1:1 gear ratio -- 5th gear as opposed to McDuck's 4th gear runs. The installation was DIY, and there are no exhaust leaks.
Here's the comparison chart; stock run is red, Borla run is blue:

Hehe, next on things to do for me...the Labree Motorsports downpipe and cats. I might be the guinea pig for the downpipe in August. I think that another 5-10 hp or more can be squeaked out there depending upon how restrictive the stock set up.
After the downpipe and downpipe and cats set up is completed, I'll have dyno runs done and will set up a group buy.
Oh yeah... I forgot to add that the ECU "detune" is another "urban legend". If you take a second to think about a Z running around on top of Pike's Peak and another running around the Everglades, you'll know why it's an urban legend. Anyway, my dyno numbers prove that it's a myth as well.

Also, mcduck's runs were done in fifth gear. This is from is post.

Hopefully, he didn't set it for one gear ratio and run it in another.

Yeah, I was going by the note on the chart where it said 4th...
Maybe he put it in for the first pull to designate my 4th visit or it was something left over from the previous customer... not really sure, but I was standing right next to the car when he dynoed...definitely 5th gear pulls.
Based on your description, it doesn't look like you reset your ECU... could that be the big difference? Also, ultimately, it looks like Tere's and my final numbers where about the same... maybe somebody had stuck a banana in my old exhaust to restrict flow...

Gas mileage??? LOL... The way I drive this car, gas mileage is not even the remotest concern. (I drive true to my plate.) But if you want to surmise, I'm running about 100-150 rpm lower for the same 3rd gear speed pre-Borla. Hmmm... lower rpm is probably a few drops less gas. LOL...
And yep, the exhaust is awesome -- above 5,000 rpm it has an incredibly wicked growl. Even the die-hard Stang guy at the speed shop loved the sound!

I was going to reset the ECU, but then I decided that if it can learn how I drive once, it can learn how I drive again without resetting the ECU (it actually seems to make the adjustments rather quickly). After all when you drive your Z up and down mountains, you don't have to reset the ECU for it to make air/fuel adjustments on it's own. I can always go back and reset the ECU anytime. I think though that there has been a ton of misinformation put out on the ECU, and we need to start putting all those myths to death.
LOL... Now everyone be sure to sniff your exhaust to see if it smells like cooked banana!
