A stripped stud is not a difficult repair. The studs are splined and can easily be removed by taking a rubber mallet and knocking them through the wheel hub. They are fairly inexpensive...

This was a small stud that threads into the lower plenum (there are 2 that have to be removed when installing a spacer). One came out no problem, and the other stripped reight away (using a 4mm 6 point socket).

I got it out but using a dremel (to grind down two sides for a better grip), and then I used a set of vice grips to break it loose and get it out.

Oh yeah, I did recently have to remove a wheel stud too (discount tire cross threaded a lug nut).

I started this to see if anyone else had the same problem. I was curious if the inverted E5 torx bit worked better, but after I got it out it was a moot point.
