Default LSD question?

okay ive searched......nothing of exactly what im looking for.....plus a ton of usless hits found...

I have an 04 touring...so it has the factory VLSD... I'm looking to replace that with a proper aftermarket LSD.....I autoX and enter local Drift events....

1. Which LSD will work on my car, comes with the shims, need to buy shims, etc?

2. also, looking for one with performance...I don't mind the low speed clunking/jerking feeling....actually i like it...but i dont think i want it as extreme as a Nismo LSD.

A friend of mine had a base model with a nismo and that thing was very aggressive IMO..

you sound like a candidate for a Quaife. check that out. seamless action, unlike the clutch type diffs.

Well it's that time and the auto store where I got my fluid said I needed it. I have a Corvette too and it requires 4-6 oz with every change so I thought maybe it had to do with the independant suspension.

1. no diff comes with shims - every car uses different size shims and there is no way to tell which you'll need, if any different from what you already have

which to do? Cusco RS is IMHO your best bet, especially given the price

Quaife is also a great unit, but needs extra parts to make it work in a VLSD car. Plus you're looking at June arrival at the earliest

anything with 100% lockup, and 2 way direction - a Cusco, for example, can be configured that way.

IIRC most of the Cusco RS LSD's come setup as 100% lock 2-way. (I had to change mine to a 80% lock 1.5-way...drifting might be fun, but it's not the fastest way around the course )

*FWIW, even if you get a Cusco RS and it's not configured how you want it, it's super easy to change...I was a little hesitant to change mine b/c I hadn't messed w/ LSD internals before, but it wasn't hard at all - just a little messy

the 1.5 way diffs come set to 1.5 way, the 2 way come set at 2 way (2 different part #'s). Both are switcheable though. They all come from Cusco at 100% lock. We set them up based on customer preference before we ship for both lockup and slip configuration

Quaife is 1.5 way, correct?

I have been using Fuch's Sylkolene race for the diff. with good results. Anyone else use this fluid?

One things nice about the Quaife is that it only requires occasional fluid changes and will not wear out like clutch packs do. Quaife also offers a warranty that covers both street and race use.

The Cusco and Tomei are nice units as well., as is the Carbonetics.

i have an ATS 1.5way lsd and i really enjoy how it operates, it only starts clunking when the oil is due for a change.

I also use Motul 90pa oil for my lsd and it uses just under 1L

Z1 Adam,

I have a 03 with VLSD, I am considering a 4.038 with a LSD for normal road drive 90% and 10% track. Which would you recommend and why? I am still considering between Cusco, Quafie, Nismo, Carbonetic.

For clutch based LSD, how frequent does the clutch plates need to be replaced? How much do they cost?
