belt question, need answer asap
One of my belts squeels when i first start up the car for the first 20 seconds or so. Does this generally mean the belt is too tight or too lose. I would assume too tight since it stops once it is warm. I dont think it is a pulley problem.
thanks

check to see if your belt is slick with humidity before you start it.
I know what you are thinking about the belt being tight and than expanding, but the pulleys start "small" and heat / expand, thus tightening the belt, that is what I think is the case for you unless you find the belt is wet with your tropic humidity.

feel like it has play when you first touch it cold, than tight after it has been running?

Andy,
I’m guessing here, but I don’t think it is belt tension causing this problem. I suspect (but again, I’m guessing) that one of the pulleys (air conditioner pump, alternator, etc.) is sticking. When the belt runs for awhile, the offending component releases and the squeal goes away.
Check the pulleys for one that might be sticking.

When I first installed my UR underdrive pulley and new belt, my belt did the exact same thing. New belts will stretch soon after installed. I tightened it and have never had a problem with it since.
