Default ECU compatability

I had a leak on the rubber grommet behing the battery that runs the wiring into the interior. Some of the water got onto the wiring at the connector for the ecu and caused some problems. I put a dehumidifier in the seat to get the moisture out for a few hours, but the problem still occured. I then took the seat out so I could position it better. I'm going to let it set for a while, but if it doesn't work I want to check the ECU to see if it's that or the wiring. What ECUs are compatible? My father has a 350Z, a G35, and my mother has a Maxima. I wasn't sure what all mattered for it though.

Really? I thought only one from a Escort would work. Guess I'm out of luck.

hmm, we both answered your question the same (since the ECU in your car will have the same serial number), yet you chose me to make your smartass remark to. if you don't even know the simple answer to that how are you even going to comprehend what you find when you check your ECU? better yet, how do you plan to do it? anyway, wish you luck on figuring it out

Here, check out this page...

There are 24 different ECUs list for the 350Z there. That's 4 per model year. Apparently, none are compatible.

I gave a smartass remark to a smartass answer. I didn't know that it was common knowledge to know the compatability of a random part, that's so uncommonly replaced. And thanks for the luck. We all need a little of it.

I've been told, but don't know for sure. Each is damn near differant.I'd just hit up the dealer and ask for the years and the models and write the numbers down.

You "should" be ok with any ECU from a G35 coupe or 350Z from 03-04. Some of the G35 sedan ECUs may work, but I know the early ones had a different plug. If the ECU has the same physical plugs you should be OK, BUT keep in mind that different cars have different maps - so if you put a G35 sedan ECU in expect to have a slightly less aggressive tune to the car (may not be noticable, but it may be, I have no idea).

Once you get the ECU installed you'll need a dealership to program the ECU to your car so it will work, you can't simply swap them unfortunately.

How did you get a leak in to your car above your ECU?

It was the rubber boot/grommet that all the wires go through from the engine bay to under the dash. The one people run amp wires from. I saw about the immobilizer thing a few minutes ago after sifting through some threads. Is it possible for them to test my ecu to make sure it's bad?

Do you have an amp installed in the car, or any wires running through the grommet? If so, I would be contacting whoever ran the wires through there about the repair costs.

What is the car doing (or not doing)? It's pretty cut and dry if it is an ECU problem.

I don't have an amp. It was my fault. I was tracing some wires and forgot to put it back on. I thought I did, but I guess not. Here's the problem I'm having.

Is there any way to tell by the number on the ECU if it will swap? Mine is MEC31-511 A1 2Y22 I found one that's MEC31-511 A1 2416. I'm not sure if it was a base or higher though.
