Default Manual Shift Option On Automatic

i was telling my uncle about the manual shift option on the automatic transmission the other day, and he thought that was a very risky option. said something about the reliability of this had to be pretty low. i told him its been around for a few years, and i believe the Corvette was the first to have it a few years ago.

anyway, what can you posters tell me about this option? how long has it been around? have there been any recurring problems with this? is it a highly recommended option?

thanks for any help,
Mike

You should just create the "Official" Whitey#1's questions thread. You have a ton of threads that could have been created with one thread.

It basically lets you choose what gear you want to be in... I'm sure its been around for a long time and I don't know any problems with it. I believe the manual tranny had more problems than the autos. No I don't recommend it because it takes the fun out of driving a sports car.

I guess Porche, Ferrari, Lambhorgini, etc. didn't know that shifting like that is a problem.
The transmission is built to shift like that if needed. This is a clip from Nissan's website. "5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and Downshift Rev Matching".
This isn't some 1960s auto-tranny. Buy your uncle a car magazine or two so he can get a little idea of current technology.

Dude that's not cool bashing somebodies Uncle. Did you not read the MY350Z posting rules when you registered?

As copied form my35Z rules of conduct.......

MY350Z rules/reg. (conduct) cont.
section 12b

3. As per agreement, No MY350Z member (premier or registered user) shall bash anybodies Uncle, Aunt, Sister, Brother, Daughter, Son, Cousin, Girl/Boy friend, wife/Husband etc. as specified by staff administration. All flames, name calling, smart *** comments, must be directed directly to the OP and other posters, unless other posters are related to the OP and stuff.

4. It is the user/flamers responsibilty to check with the OP to verify somebody they want to flame in the OP's thread, is not related the OP. So yes you can't bash family or friends of the OP. You can pretty much only bash the OP (as specified above). Bashing OP's relatives and stuff is bad, M'kay.

Hope that clears things up.

Risky?No
Optional? All 350z automatics have this function.
Fist to have it? Not sure, but it seems to have become popular in the late 1990's and early 2000's.
