Oil Catch Tank Confusion *searched and researched*
I read and searched for almost 2 weeks and read over 20+ threads here is my conclusion and my consensus is that there is 2 main idea behind the location of the catch tank.
1.) Passenger side where the PCV is to the lower intake plenum
2.) Driver side crankcase that hooks up to the intake tube which some describe as "high load" which i have no idea what that meant. ( i saw some 350z in option2 magainze time attack also routed it this way but i cant see it catching oil if you read my justification below)
My reasoning and this is assuming for a NA engine that when the throttle butterfly is open it creates a suction to pull in the oil vapor from the pcv valve to the lower plenum ( hence the one way check valve)
but on the driver side... if it is true that it pulls air in from the intake tube ( assuming the oil vapor flow is from air intake tube --> driver side crank case vent --> middle hose to balance the 2 side crank case--> pcv valve ---> lower plenum) , why would some people put a breather on the driver crankcase vent and plug the hole on the intake tube then the air measured into the engine will be reading way off.
So my question is if you have the conventional cusco oil catch tank , where would you put it? on the passenger side or the driver side? I read as well some poster insisted it to be located at the driver side be it NA or FI ( no names mentioned). I will understand that if u are FI u should locate it on the driver side as the pcv valve will be held shut once u go into boost if u were to locate it on the passenger side, as you can create a vacuum source if the tank is routed pre-turbo and to the driver crankcase vent.
It would beat the idea if u only put it on the passenger side if oil vapor still goes out back into the intake via the driver side crankcase ( if my theory of the oil vapor flow is wrong ) , the FSM doesnt say anything on the oil vapor flow nor does the FAQ
Hope i can get some answers rather than a blank statement to locate it somewhere without logic behind it.
cheers and hope im not confusing anyone

ARC has a catch can that does both Bank1 and Bank2.
If you're wanting to use the Cusco, put it on the Passenger side (Bank1). Most people just vent the driver's side (Bank2) to atmosphere, or they leave the factory piping intact.

gothchick: thanks for the tips but hope you can include some clarification to my doubts and to your solution as well....and if a breather is located on the driver side , wont the metered air be "wasted" and throw a CEL?
do you guys know whats the flow of the oil vapor?
more discussion needed pls
