Default lost hp cure????? (apexi s-afcII)

to those of you with afc experence, anyone care to speculate on if this will regain our lost hp? the reasone i ask is, the last time i dynoed, my dyno guys told me that i was running too rich, and i had quit alot of power to be had with better a/f control. isnt a/f ratio whats killing our mods? now i know that most cars run rich from the factory, but i (THINK) when i added my cai, that my maf sensor is telling my computer to add more fule to compensate for the added air? wich isnt realy right is it? if i can back off some of the fule, id gain a decent amount of power wouldnt i? please note that im not realy sure how this whole system works. so if im understanding this wrong, please dont feel the need to flame me! but if im right, then were all having the same problem, and would the afcII correct it? anyways i have a US spec s-afcII, and im just waiting to get the wiring diagram to hook it up! our car wasnt in the first US manuals, but apex says they will be releaseing it SOON! ill keep you all posted on how it works for me!

I have a vafc on my 99 Prelude SH, and honda run very smooth in fuel, I actually lowered the fuel 22% at 8000!
Most important of all, you've gotta get some experts to tune the safc to get the best result, otherwise, it may actually hurt the performance

Just go get the wiring diagram from Nissan. It will be the same. The Apex-i unit labels all the wires, you just have to find the corresponding wires on the Z harnass.

It's a 1 hour job. Plus I want you to hurry up and do it so I can see how it works

I really want to hold off for the EMS or Power FC iteration for our car, but who knows how long that will be. Anyways, good luck.

I know how you feel about the lost HP from the ECU compensation. I think have a temporary idea for this...

How about weekly resetting of the ECU or atleast before you make any sport runs. You can do the pedal reset or you can pop out the ECU fuse for 20+ minutes.

This will put the ECU back into a cold mode or learning mode. I think it takes 10+ trips for the computer to kick back in and start compensating. So for a short time period your mods will be felt a little more.

I popped my fuse out while me and my buddy were working on his car (this was his idea). And later my butt dyno could feel the difference, plus the engine was roaring a little louder.

Does anyone know if doing this will have anylong term side effects.

So the SAFC-II has been out for a while (Japanese or not). We know the correct corresponding wires to the Z. Why has no one posted up that they have it working . . . .because it wont work with our computers. The CAN system in our cars is too fast for the AFC to get the signal, interpret, recalculate, and send back. Call Apexi, they know. They say they will have a solution before long. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

BTY, I hear that HKS has the equipment that will work with a CAN system. Have not looked into it but I am sure someone has . . .lets hear about it.

That is if you disconnect the battery. There are other methods you can do in a minute or two, with or without the Consult 2.

I will be getting the S-AFC II put in next week. I had to wait cause I've been waiting on my exhaust and time at the tuning shop and it doesn't help that I've been traveling for like the last month and a half... but I'm finally able to squeeze some time in. So by the end of next week I should know what improvements that the AFC will do.

Will keep everyone posted once this is done.
