Default Transmission Removal/Jack Question

I'm in the middle of installing my clutch, everything was going fine until I went to remove the trans. I have 2 questions.

1st, is there a trick to making the engine and trans separate? I have the car on a lift, and I am using a floor transmission jack. I have the trans unbolted, all the wiring undone, etc. When I unbolt the trans x-member and lower the trans jack, the trans will dip down, but it will not separate from the engine. I tried pulling the jack away from the motor, etc. but it won't come apart. Is there a trick? I triple checked to make sure all the bolts are out. The trans is in neutral, don't know if that affects it.

2nd, this is not my first clutch install, but it is my first using a floor-based transmission jack. I read on one of the DIY clutch installs that most of the weight on the trans is in the back, I have been putting the jack towards the back, right before the point where it dips down after the drain plug. Is this the typical spot? I believe the bellhousing is the lightest part of the trans, since it is empty, any pointers/tips/obvious things I am missing, please let me know. Thanks.
