Being off 200 RPM at redline isn't so bad for a non-self-calibrating analog gauge.

thats about what mine was at stock rev limit. i guess it depends on what you feel is adequate. IMO, if its a noticeable difference its bad. a gauge should be accurate. it shouldnt have to be guesswork as to what RPM youre at. it doesnt need to be medical equipment precice but within 100 RPM is more than reasonable to expect

Mine seems pretty accurate. As soon as it reaches 6600RPM on the cluster, it hits the redline.

Edit: plus ive seen several threads talking about how bad the tach is
fwiw 8400 on my tach (2008 cluster into 2004 car) is 8400 on my utec log...it's dead on accurate in fact (within less than 50 rpm differential). I've never compared it to a cipher log since I dont use that for datalogging anything

how did the old tach compare? i wonder if the new tachs are finally getting better. i hope so. revving to 7500 RPM stock sort of requires that you have an accurate tach. im sure the cipher log and utec log agree, they are going to measure based on the actual voltage and it doesnt require the mechanical transfer to a sweeping gauge, so i would be surprised if it was wrong

how am I pushing it if the car revs to 8400? I dont need a 10k rpm tach unless I am reving the car to 10k.

i mean that its towards the end of the range, only 600 RPM further. most stock tachs have 1500 RPM or more extra on the end. but its certainly more exciting when the revs are nearing the end of the tach.

but honestly who cares how much further the tach has to go past the point where you're shifting? Not much point in having extra rev count if the car isn't going to use it

For some reason on my '07 G coupe the rev limit hasn't been kicking in until over 7500 on the tach. I tried setting the shift light in increments of 100 from 7300 up just to see how far it would go and the indicator for 7700 rpm is still flashing. any ideas why my VQ35DE is revving so much higher then normal? i was without the car for a few months and before that i could swear limiter kicked in around 7200 on the tach
