Can I change my solid motor mount like this??
Hey guys, I'm planning to install a set of Solid Motor Mount tomorrow, and I'm planning to raise one side of the car and loosen the bolt on the OEM mount, then I'll put a wooden block under the oil pan, and slow lower the car, so the engine will raise enough room for me to change the mount. Do you guys think this will work??
As someone who has changed to solid motor mounts, I would not recommend that method at all!
That oil pan is only stamped steel, and probably about 1/8th inch thick or less.

dont forget to solid mount the tranny as well. do one, and you must do both. i know sometimes you can get lucky but if you not, it gets really ugly. and be ready for the rumble. its no longer a smooth ride!

Who told you otherwise?

I know they make aftermarket transmission mounts, what I am questioning is 411Z's statement that you must change to a solid trans mount if you do the motor mounts - which I know from personal experience is not true.
The guy who built my engine, Scott of SVRT, is the same guy who made most of the solid engine mounts in use for the Z... And he never told me that, either.

my bad on the whole MUST word... like i said, you can get away with it. and it sounds like alot of guys have. and its not that someone told me that, i speak from experience. back when i had my 68 camaro about a year and a half ago, (8.80 1/4, @155, purpose built) i ran a rubber tranny mount w/solid motor mounts. my buddy camaro was the same way. at about 1000', the rear end of his car slid out just a bit, which obviously twisted things aroung just a bit. well i guess the tranny wanted to wiggle in its rubber mount, and it snapped the tail shaft clean off of his th400. the next day i had a solid mount on my tranny. just somethin to think about, cause it can happen.

this is true. but thats not to say that it couldnt happen... especially in drag racing. do you have any idea the amount of strain exerted on parts in this sport? even on a stock cadillac you could break things.

very true..but theres no sense comparing something that happend to a car with 10x the torque as an example of why not to do it. On a car like that its an absolute must..on ours its more of a preference thing.
