Anybody else sick of the ethanol?
It seems theres about 3 places within 20 miles of my house that ive found with 100% gas. How bad is the 10% ethanol on your engine? My dad said it will clog your injectors up alot faster? im not to keen on gas so thought i would see what its like in your neck of the woods, and how you feel it effects gas mileage etc?
i just think its f*cking retarded. its like the 9/10s trick they pull with the price. i mean it is insignificant to the average person but i am sure it is billions a year in profit. i try to avoid gas stations that use ethanol in the gasoline... i am not sure how it affects performance/parts but it simply is not what i am paying for. sorry i didnt answer your question OP, just had to get that out there.

Also now that all the stickers are on the signs it seems my gas mileage has gone down from 25 to around 23 but its gone up about 8 degrees so im sure its just the heat. But i still wish i could get what i pay for.
Where I live we are forced to burn Ethanol every winter, so far no problems that I can tell. Ethanol is cleaner burning fuel, at least thats why we run it during the winter. Probably no need to get your panties in a bunch.
I drive a Cadillac STS with the northstar v8. I go to the gas stations that have the 10% in it pretty often(i use 93 octane). I notice no effect on anything. Its not hurting my engine or any parts on it. I dont see why it would hurt anything. Like said above^^ it does burn cleaner(or its supposed to). I assume it does more good than bad on an engine. But im not a scientist on it. So i dont know for sure.
Someone has probly done some sort of tests on this subject. You might can do some searching and come up with something.
If its done anything at all to my injectors my computer would probly throw some codes. And i know i would notice a loss in performance. Ive noticed nothing at all.

If I'm not mistaken, the ethanol would actually be a good thing to have in your fuel. It is a type of alcohol which burns cleaner and hotter than gasoline. I don't see how that could possibly clog injectors or cause any other negative side effect.
Trending Topics
The ethanol is used to boost octane.
Ethanol has less energy this gas by about 30%. So 10% of your purchased fuel will have 30% less energy. I would guess the overall efficiency drop would barely be noticable.
The gasoline companies get huge incentives from the government to blend ethanol with their gas.

Definitely multiple posts about this but..
from what I have heard (and most have posted here) there is nothing wrong with ethanol. If anything, I believe it is -cleaner- for your injectors the regular gasoline.
doesnt bother me one bit. The -only- thing I noticed when they first started introducing it (I owned a Tiburon at the time) seemed to take a little longer to start.. as if the gas didnt ignite as easily or something.
But it still does the trick with virtually no adverse effects.

10% ethanol is fine...it wont damage your injectors
there is a misconception about ethanol...the only time it will harm your injectors is if you run full on E85 in a car that isnt mean to run it...E85 flexifuel cars are built with different different ECUs and fuel injectors
flexifuel cars (from my understanding on the subject) use a wideband o2 sensor to read exhaust ratings...when E85 is used in the vehicle...the wideband shifts the ECU and fuel injectors into running 30-35% more fuel in the motor to account for the burn difference between petrol and ethanol
ive been running ethanol in my 240 (i have a power FC Djetro fuel computer in my car) for the last 6 months and have learned a few things about it...ive run into a few problems using ethanol...if your fuel injectors seals are basically stock (i run deatschwerks fuel injectors which are recoiled and reflowed to spray a higher CC amount of fuel...the internal seals around the injector coil and injector itself are pretty much stock)...the ethanol will eat the seals and cause the injector to seize
from what ive read online and learned from the cars at the shop im sponsored by...only certain aftermarket injectors are capable of handling E85 correctly...NISMO/SARD injectors (for the SR20) will handle E85 without any adverse side effects...also top feed injectors from HKS and RC Engineering will hold up well to the abuse
if you choose to run E85 in your car thats not made for E85...you will need to change your oil religiously at the 3 month or 2800 mile mark...you will also need to run full synthetic motor oil...E85 will eat away at normal motor oil rather quickly and begin to cause problems in your bottom end if you dont run synthetic and change it on a normal basis
im going to be retuning the car to run 91 octane soon just due to the fact i dont feel like spending another 500 bux on new fuel injectors at the moment (i will do so once i have the cash...or rather when i get around to building the head on my motor...one of the last mods i need to do the car in the next 6 months)
but back to the whole 10% ethanol in normal gas...your car will be fine running that mix...i ran 91 with a 10% ethanol mix in my SR20 for over 5 1/2 years (before i went to 100 then E85)...i never once had a problem with it (given the 91 plus 10% ethanol mix is all we can get here in vegas)
one thing i will say about E85 though...you cant beat 103-105 octane for 3.25 a gallon...and it handles timing WONDERFULLY (im 8deg advanced past TDC at 6000rpm...my A/F ratios are amazingly stable with it around those RPMs)

One "test" that you can use on the guy to see if he's feeding a line of poop about 100% gas is the smell. Full gas has a much more robust smell, what I call "chewy" and of course the ethanol laced fuel is going to have an alchol smell to it. There are very few, if truly any that are using 100% gas. The younger you are, the harder it is to tell because they've been putting all kinds of additives in fuel for years, including alcohol. They just were'nt required to tell you until now.
