Interesting.

The VQ37HR in the G has a taller deck and a longer stroke. I wonder if the stroke to rod ratio in the VQ37HR is the same as the VQ35HR?

Oh, throwing this out there... met a guy the other night with a new G37 Coupe, and he's losing a little more than 1 quart every 1000 miles already... I think he said he's got about 5K on the clock...

No ****? Ouch... Hopefully it's just part of the breakin for that motor.

When I was breaking mine in, it was consuming about 1qt per 4k mines, now at 24k miles on the clock, it's inceased to 1qt per 3k miles. Slowly getting worse...

I'm thinking it's gotta be a "wear" item like rings, valve seal guides, seats, etc...

I wonder if it's too early to determine whether or not the VQ35HR engines are going to have the oil consumption issue. This engine comes in the 2007-2008 350z, and the 2007 G35 Sedan. The new G37 is also questionable.

Seems like Nissan/Infiniti are infamous with oil consumption issues.

I really wanted a G35 since day one. I can't believe the engine was awarded top 10 engines for all those years. They must have tested the automatic only.

Thanks for everyones input. Keep the suggestions and feedback coming.

Default Haven't noticed anyone on the '06 Oil consumpt'n page here...

I had a '06 MT ZR with 3 different engines. Had enough - did a buyback and got a '08 MT ZR 900 below invoice. I would'nt waste my time on a '06 MT if I had to do it all over again. There's fantastic deals on '07's and others if you do your homework. Make sure you read this thread:

Strange, my 2002 never had oil consumption problems.

But then again, I've had both on autocross courses before 1000 miles (the SpecV had 600 miles, and the Z had less than 300 miles -- but it was wet)

I would assume the deck height to be different on the VQ35HR and the VQ37HR because of the stroke difference.

Nissan could move the wrist pin in the piston and keep the rod length the same. I was just thinking they'd try to keep the pistons the same.

from what i understand the 37hr is a small bore 40 pretty much. which would be a stroked 35hr.

they could move the wrist pin, but that might permit more oil consumption. i would imagine that they used the 40 crank/rods, but used a diff piston all together.

i am prolly wrong though and have 0 technical information to back this up.

No the 02s didnt have oil consumption issues they had tranny and cat issues . The 04s are the ones that had cat and oil consumption issues

Yeah, I would be hesitant modifying a rev-up G35/350z. I would most likely keep it stock for a while until I can get a read of the oil consumption pattern.
