Default Calling all 6mt Rev-Up Engine Owners..

If you were aware of the oil consumption issues would you go back and purchase something else?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to purchase a 6mt 350z/g35 with the rev-up motor.

Any regrets? Knowing the possibilities of having oil consumption issues would you go ahead and purchase one?

In addition to your opinion it would be nice to know your experiences with the oil consumption issue.

Thanks in advance...

My 06 has been fine for 20,000 miles. I did do proper break-in and put all but 30 miles on the car.

Depends on what your plans for the car is, I had horrible oil consumption but also ended up going twin turbo/built motor at roughly 7500 miles. Getting the motor built resolved my oil consumption issues *knock on wood*

Thumbs up

Me and a buddy both have 06' rev ups...mine has 22K and his has 18K. Neither one of us have oil consumption issues and both got excellent deals on them...maybe because of the scare. I know both dealers were hot to get rid of them. I say wheel and deal then pull the trigger if the price is right.

Here's ours...

honestly most owners say if it does consume...its less then a qt every 1500 miles...give or take...not that crazy...shouldnt happen but still..

My car is at 13k and its ok so far....either a bad batch...or a bad area...i do not believe it effected the mass...I wish they could narrow it down to a series though...

bought brand new 06 Z. i already got my engined replaced twice. now my car has 19000 miles on it. so far no OC, but im still doing the OC test once in a while just to make sure nothing is going on. despite experiencing OC problems, the dealer (performance nissan in duarte) that i go to really took care of me and my car. overall i still love my car!!!

Don't go into it nilly-*****. Be aware there may an issue with the motor. Have it checked to see if there is an issue. simple.

I got the sense you were saying "I'm about to buy a car with a motor I know to have issues and I'm just gonna jump in anyway. Wish me luck! What do you guys think?"

I know you want a Z. Have the motor checked before you spend a lot of money. There are a lot of 06s with minimal problems but there are a lot of 06s with significant problems. I'm not a homer for NISSAN who would say "go for it". How about you do some real research....then "Go For It".

GL

IMO....

Heh, I am doing my research. I wouldn't have started this thread if I wasn't researching. I am looking to purchase a car knowing that it may have an oil consumption issue. I will definitely take a look at the car maintenance log to see if everything was performed. Although this won't tell me if the car is consuming too much oil.

Can I take the VIN # to a Nissan/Infiniti dealer and ask if the car went through a OC test?

How can I go by having the motor checked out for oil consumption? I thought the only way to find out if the car is going to have excessive oil consumption is by driving it. Which meant that I would have to purchase the car before knowing whether or not it is consuming too much oil.

Thanks...

I bought mine brand new in june 06, i never tested for oc, but it doesn't seem like a problem to me. If i knew of the OC problems, i probably would have tried harder finding an 06 sti or try to get a good deal on a c5 z06, but no problems and the car is not that bad.

Yes. The fact it was tested should be on the puter as well as the results. (not 100%)

Never had any oil consumption on mine (I have an 05 6mt G35) when I was NA. I loose about 1/2 quart of oil every 3000 miles with my ST which is not bad. I have about 27K miles now and 10k is boosted miles.

I have 25k on my RevUp with no oil consumption problems.

I bought an '06 oil consumption motor and am building that for my car. I'm probably the only person putting an OC motor into their car... of course it will be bored and completely rebuilt...

Is there a way to find out if stats are available on this issue? Maybe it was only a small percentage of the 'O6 year-issue that had the oil-consumption defect. At any rate, checking the oil level more often than the usual should
cut it (I check mine ['O4 Touring Coupe] 'bout once a week, & top off, if necessary--
so far, so good). BTW, only THE best goes in: MOBIL 1 5W30 weight, MOBIL 1 synthetic-element filter, too!)

Mine is getting a new engine at the dealer as I type this. It sucks not knowing the outcome of this. Since I found out I first had oil consumption which was last year, I've stopped all modding. I hope the new engine fixes the problem, but if it doesn't.. I have no hesitation attempting a buyback and getting something else.
