Default New Tranny - Stick is Higher

I just got my '03 tranny swapped for a CD009 and it feels great. No more synchro grinding, shifts are smooth and feels much more solid but I noticed that the shift stick is now sitting a little bit higher than before and is slightly angled back. To put it in perspective when it is in 1st, 3rd or 5th the **** looks like it is slightly forward to the stock nuetral position. Overall it actually feels pretty good in this position, almost like a short throw, but I am concerned that it could cause issues if it was not installed properlly.

I guess my questions are:

Is this usual for the new transmissions?
If not was the tranny installed wrong and could this cause issues?
Lastly, is this a simple adjustment?

Thanks!

In my '06 the dealer just replaced the motor with the V2 model, and I noticed that the shift stick is mounted higher as well, very similar to what you are saying. Same tranny as before, but definetly higher. Feels good to me too. Could be they are mounting them differently??

It’s not unusual for the shift lever to be in a slightly different position (and inch or two) after a transmission replacement. You notice this because you were so accustomed to the shift lever’s position before the replacement. But, anyone else driving the car won’t see this.

It doesn’t hurt anything unless it’s so far out of position that you cannot negotiate the gears properly, and this does not sound to be the case in your situation.

After driving this a week or two, you probably won’t notice the difference much either.

^^ I doubt that any of the males here would agree to your solution.

Thanks for the input spike. I got a good look of a tranny with the gear box attached and noticed that appears to be an adjustable hinge. All is well and works great so no complaints.

Thanks for the reply. I can tell you that you are really going to like your new transmission. It is so much better than the original version you had. It shifts much better, isn’t “notchy” at all, and greatly improves your driving experience with the Z.

it depends on how sloppy your gate is,if you're banging gears all over town nothing will feel right.

It sounds as though you are experiencing the dreaded “synchromesh problem.”

Your fix is a new transmission. You get this from your Nissan dealership.
