Default 009 Transmission Question

Ok, I've read most of the threads about transmission grinding and whatnot. My '03 grinds occasionally going into 3rd and 5th gear. Occasionally when I push the clutch pedal in, I get a creaking sound. I'd like to upgrade to the 009 transmission. Can I have this done at any shop or is this transmission only available through a Nissan dealership?

Also, has anyone with an extended warranty had this fix? If the mechanic works with the warranty company and explains to them that I need a new transmission, do you think they will cover it without b1tching or will I have to fight them tooth and nail?

I'm having same issue. I have extended warranty and I called Nissan dealership. They told me to drop the car off and they would diagnose the car and contact the warranty company.

Have you already done this or is it still in the process?

I called 15 minutes ago. I have to take it to the dealership and they have to diagnose the car. I've heard many people changed their tranny with warranty though. I'll give you an update but I'm not sure when I'm going to take my car to the dealership because this is my main vehicle.

my clutch died just as 5th started grinding. i'm trying to find out if putting in an aftermarket clutch will void my warranty and any chance for a free tranny.

Just want to confirm with you. You had difficulty going into 3rd and 5th and it would grind at times? How long was this problem going on ? How long have you had the new clutch and flywheel?

My 03 G 6mt grinds and I'm about to dismantle the tranny and replace the clutch. Just wondering if my problems will go away with a new clutch and flywheel as well.

Thanks

Okay, um no. Please disregard this guys advice. Changing your clutch and flywheel will not revive your transmissions syncros. That's a totally separate issue. Your transmission needs to be repaired or replaced. I don't know anything about rebuilding transmissions, but I know it can be done, and the syncros can be repaired... but it's probably cheaper to just get a new transmission, especially if you're under warranty.

Your "grinding" into 3rd and 5th because those syncros wore out because our 2k3 transmissions were craptastic. I replaced my 2003 Track Z's transmission about 3 months ago under warranty with the revised transmission, and noticed a seriously quieter drivetrain and syncros that didn't grind with every rapid shift.

Thanks mcarther. I didn't know if something could have gotten damaged or loosened to cause the grinds in those 2 gears.

Unfortunately for me I am out of warranty. I'm not quite sure how to find a new 009 revised tranny for cheap either.

I also wonder how long these tranny's usually last when you start to get these not so often grinds in 3rd and 5th.

Check these forums, craigslist, call some local shops that work with Z's. You can find used one's with low miles for cheap. I paid $750 for mine with install.
