Angry Running Rich

I have an 04 350z. Had a Vortech VS2 kit installed. Can't get it to work correctly. Been to numerous mechanics for big bucks with no luck. Car is getting 9# of boost but only 290 HP due to the fact that it's running rich. Air/fuel ratio drops off the scale below 10 after 4500 RPM. I replaced the fmu but still no change. Any suggestions?

What is the ratio of the FMU? Also did you upgrade your MAF housing? What kind of EMS? Any reflash? How are you checking your A/F ratio? .... Sorry for asking so many questions but in order for me to give you a legitimate answer I need to know these things.

Ratio is 8:1 Maf housing was not changed. Air/Fuel ios being checked on the Dynojet. The boost reading is coming from a guage that I had installed to the manifold.

Also. Timing controller box that is tied into the ECU is wired into the MAF sensor, crank sensor, cam sensor positive, negative, manifold vacuum, and secondary fuel pump. I/ve also had the controller sent back to Vortech to be reflashed. Brand new FMU. parts replaced on the supercharger(shft and seals)

So it's safe to assume that you don’t have an EMS or a reflash! I can recommend you changing the MAF housing; I think your MAF sensor is reading a **** load of air which is causing your ECU to dump a bunch of fuel. If you’re running rich why you haven’t tried removing the FMU and re-testing your A/F levels?

What is an EMS? DO I need a modified MAF housing? Don't need to sound dumb. I'm learning as I go. Thanks!

OK, EMS stands for Engine Management System. There are a couple of them out there; the more popular one is the TurboXS Utec. It's highly recommended that you have an EMS when you have a forced induced car. This EMS system allows you to control many parameters of your engine, which in turn allows you to make smoother, safe, reliable power. With that being said, there are plenty or should I say a couple of people out there that have been running boost on their car W/O an EMS. My experience leads me to tell you that it is imperative that you have an EMS. As far as the maf housing goes, I would try the simple solution first, remove the FMU!

Should I keep the secondary fuel pump inline that is controlled by the FMU

Why pay for someone to troubleshot your car when you can do it yourself? I would recommend doing that if you have exhausted all your options.

What I would do is try to work backwards when it comes to your fuel system, basic troubleshooting. Your running too rich, but you have all these mods to your fuel system to bump up fuel pressure or add more fuel; common sense tells me to try to remove some of the fuel.

seems like he has the split second box. get a tune, or upgrade your exhaust system for more free flow, it will lean it out a bit.
