Default How much is to much?! "Oil Reading" Ranting!

Ok, so when I went to check the oil level on Saturday morning before starting the car, I notice that they overfilled it about a half of quart.

I then called the dealer right away and spoke to the service manager an told him about it, he was really nice about it and agreed that I need to bring it in and that they will change the oil and give me on top of that a free oil change for my next visit as well as a curtesy. I was happy about it since the car had 100 miles already on it and I was suggested to change it A.S.A.P. right after the V2 install.

Well, I just check the oil level again this morning and the BASTARDS overfilled it again, either that or they never did anything to begin with. I took the ruler this morning and my camera to document the reading and show them when I take it back tomorrow morning.

It looks like they overfilled it by 11ish MM. Here the picture I took, do you guys think is too much or ok?

Put the dipstick back in the car , put your camera away and don't pop your hood again.

Oil level can easily very a small amount, especially 11mm on the dipstick. Even worse with the Z, YES our dipstick set up sucks. All your doing is being the clueless customer (that thinks they know something) everyone loves to hate

That's the least they could do. However, from what I've read, to much oil is just as bad as not enough. So, the question is, how much is too much?

In addition to my last comment, no I am not the customer from hell. I am the customer that has gone through hell to be able to get a new engine in my car because of OC issues related to the 05 and 06 Revved up motors.

Just speculating, but maybe becuase you are checking your oil level with a ruler...thats nuts!

OK..just kidding. In all honestly, a little over or under isnt going to harm anything. It is very common for techs and oil changer people, to just dump 5qts in there and call it a day. Nothing to worry about.

On some TT kits, and other special applications, overfilling can cause some other issues. Of course, if you SIGNIFICANTLY overfilled, you can do some damage.

Maybe I neglected to mention that I have just got my car back from having NNA install a new engine because of OC problems. I dont know if you have gone through the hassle of having them to replace your engine. However, being that I am going through my breaking period, I do not want to add any strained to the engine seals.

BOTTOM line is, the should not had ovefilled the oil period.

Are you checking the oil first thing in the morning, and checking BOTH sides of the dipstick? Oftentimes, you have to read both sides to get a good reading.

The stick is a POS, and very difficult to check, especially immediately after running the engine.

Can you please be kind enough to explain to me your definition of "SIGNIFICANTLY overfilled" Please?

I do check both side of the dipstick, and I agree that checking the oil is quite a pain right after the engine's been running. However, I always get a perfect reading after the car has been seating overnight. It never fails, always accurate when done overnight.

I google this question, I searched wikipedia, and still cant seem to find the answer to the question "how much is to much."

Now, it was mentioned earlier that for so long as it does not bounce to 120PSI then it should be fine. However, I cant rev the car above 4000 RPM since I am breaking in the new engine. Up to 4000 RPM the PSI goes up to 90 PSI.

Funny , but true. The extra .1 qts is perfectly normal and doesn't affect a thing.
