Default OH BOY WAS I WRONG!

EDIT:
My car is consuming a quart of oil in 1,300 miles. It's down 17mm on the dipstick (I KNOW ITS A DISTANCE MEASUREMENT!). I originally thought it was down 6-8mm on the dipstick.

Sorry for the confusion

HOLY CRAP!

I'm so glad it's still under warranty. I don't even think the REV UPS are/were going through this much!!

Discuss!

mm, you know, millimetres. 17mm in 1300 miles is excessive. I find out Wednesday if I get a new engine.

how many miles do you have on your Z? That does seem like a lot. Maybe its time for a leakdown test... a rebuild...? Twin Turbo time?

I run through about 3/4 a qt every 4k (german castrol) 43k miles on my car

Maybe it's different here in Canada.

I know it's distance. It's the distance it's down on the dipstick. 17mm down from the H.

Hence why I said 17mm down from the dipstick eqautes to close to a quart of oil

I have 36,000 miles on my 04.5

which tells us absolutely............nothing, unfortunately

you can only measure it in volumetric figures - anything else is useless

Tell me WHY measurements on this picture are in mm? Tell me WHY the service manager told me that 17mm down on the dipstick is excessive? Tell me WHY the technician himself used a measuring device to document to NNA that my oil was down 17mm on the dipstick or 1 quart?

Sorry for being like this, this thread will probably get locked up now because of you guys complaining about measurements and volumetric figures or lack thereof.

na he is right...it would be hard determining how much oil is gone from looking just at the dipstick...ive seen mechanics measure in mm cuz its a more accurate way of determining.

+1 on measurement

Nissan goes by the dipstick, you guys are crazy to think thats not a accurate measurement...the dipstick goes right into the oilpan and measures the oil perfectly. If you fill it to a certain level then drive 1k miles and its halfway down the dipstick then the oil is going somewhere.

If its low then its low. Now there are idiots that will check the oil on a hill and think its overfull/underfull....but thats the idiot measurement.
