Great question. I had wondered what the FI guys would say myself.

I've been talking to Kyle at IPP. great price on a new block and he'll switch everything over from my stock block for $800. I'm pretty sure I'm going with him. I just need to pick out an ECU and a tuner in Central Texas. Everyone tells me to go with Haltech but I'd rather pay $1300 for a UTEC and tune than $1800 for just an ECU

Check the classifieds there are a few used utec's on there you can cut 1,300 almost in half if you buy a used one.

I think a fully built block would be overkill and more expensive to buy parts and have them installed. **** man I dont know. lol
The bottom end is known to be weak (mine blew last summer with a mere 380whp) Definately upgrade pistons, rods, headstuds. As far as price goes for parts alone i paid over $2,000 (cdn) and thats not including labor, tensioners gaskets etc.
Its not overkill when you'll be kicking yourself later with a huge rebuild bill :s

I'm on the fence with them. I havent heard anything bad but nothing stellar either. On top of that, they told me they have never tuned an APS kit but they would limit my hours so I didn't go broke... Not sure I want to be the test dummy.

I've decided to go with an Impart Parts Pro block. $2600 plus $800 to transfer over everything from my last one including turbo kit. That seems like a hard deal to beat.

Trying to decide on a tuner in the central Texas area...
