Default Blown engine - looking for build options

Long story short I ran the **** out of my car with no oil. Where the oil went I don't know, and a the time I didn't care. I was dealing with a girlfriend with serious emotional and psychological issues during christmas and I had much bigger issues than the car(trust me). So the current engine still runs, but it runs rough and knocks pretty loud.

I don't think I want the headache of going the turbo route. I want to stay NA. I need some ideas though. I'm not looking to spend a fortune. I talked with a dealer just for a starting reference point and they wanted 7,400 to install a used motor with 30k miles and 11k for a new motor. Surely I can get a better motor installed for cheaper?

Should I have the current motor rebuilt, buy an already built longblock with higher compression? What are some vendors that have such options available? Most of the pre-built engines I've seen are built for boost.

Help me out here....

try www.forgedperformance.com. Look at the s1 engine. Here you go.

I called a local performance shop (http://www.abelracing.com/) They said they could do an install for around 1200-1500 with fluids. He is looking around right now to see if he can find me a stock low mileage engine. I'm still wanting to consider options for a pre-built NA setup.

That just means its built with stronger internals that come stock.

And lower compression.

OP-you could build NA or try this site. I have used them many times and they are legit.

if you want to stay out of the 8000 to 11k range then just get a used block installed by that shop.

Used motors can be had for $600-800. Just find a shop to install.

Yep, that's what I'm gonna do. He found me a used engine with low miles. The shop is within walking distance to my house and everyone around here knows of them and they have a good reputation. I'm doing the clutch while I'm at it.

I'm going to keep the old engine too... just in case I decide to start a real build.
