the upgrade kit itself is not very expensive at all. Its just the labor that is involved which adds the cost. Contact some local shops who have experience with AT upgrades like the transgo kit. Shop around!

I just had mine installed by a local Z33/Z34 shop in my town for a very nice price. I also had them put in an upgraded tranny fluid cooler. This, paired up with my works bell paddle shifters = pure win.

My shop took 4 hours to install it.

The 5AT has 3.2 gearing, I switched to the 6MT pumpkin with 3.5 gears. It does make it quicker. You could even go to 3.9 or more, but I thought it might be too much.

I traded my whole pumpkin with a 6MT friend, so it didn't cost me anything.
Some of the F/I 6MT owners want the 3.2 because they run out of gears too fast.

Then you should delete your account and leave the forums. People like you flaunt what they have but never have good intentions to help others deserved to be ripped off.

Transgo shift kits range from $205-$300 depending where you buy. Big names like Forged Performance and GT Motorsports will charge the higher premium because they can, which is closer to $300 just for the kit. Labor to install will range from $250-$500 from a local transmission shop. GTM rapes it's customers at a labor of $500 WITHOUT even installing it, it's just to open the valve body and install the modifications.

I will be sure to delete my account on the advice of a person that has 34 posts. I stated how long it would take to put in and the price of the transgo kit is common knowledge. When you have helped people a fraction of what I have on this board get back to me.

Telling someone to use a local transmission shop is not exactly helpful since it will more than likely be installed incorrectly. I don't tell people what I pay for things because I don't want to flaunt what I have. Get your head out of your azz!

You sound a little upset buddy. You're not making much sense, that's for sure. Take a deep breath and try again.

^^^ I believe he meant installing the Transgo kit into the valve body, but not installing the VB into the transmission.

However, I don’t know why he would recommend a transmission shop to install the kit… there aren’t many transmission shops that can/will install the kit in the VB - most will R&R the VB, but they cant install the kit... that is why the few places that do install the kit charge a bunch. It’s amazing how many ppl think it’s an easy job... I've even heard of some people saying they will DIY (haven’t read about the outcome of that yet).

BTW, I dont think GTM actually installs the kit, I'm pretty sure they outsource it (like the do their Trq coverters and probably many other things)... but they arent gonna tell us who they use or they will lose their cut.

Ah that makes more sense. I stick with shops like GTM and Forged for the single vendor support after the sale. With so many aftermarket parts on the car, I know I can get support for most all of them through one of those two shops. That support after the sale if things ever go wrong is more than worth the extra expense. You do get what you pay for most of the time...

That plus the “one-stop-shop” makes it convenient and more efficient if you have multiple projects at once.

GTM installs it in-house. They have one specific tech guy that installs it. I know this because I spoke with him asking what the difference is between transgo and GTM valvebody. GTM installs the transgo mod and do additional modifications to improve it. So this is what they consider their GTM valvebody (transgo plus custom GTM mods). Their work is solid but very pricy. Thats why I refer to it as raping the customer. The mod is not hard, it just takes a long time because theres a lot of bolts holding that valve body together.

I'm actually the one that plans to do the the DIY, in fact, probably the only one that will do this favor for the whole 350z community. I'm waiting on a specific Z to hit that tranny flush interval so I can pull the valvebody and do the mod but this time taking pictures as I go. I'm curious what the additional GTM mods are that would warrant their labor rate of $500 just to put the mod into the valvebody.

Any performance transmission shop will be able to do this mod. It just takes a perfectionist to be patient with the check ***** and springs. Which the use of petroleum jelly does wonders to keep in place when putting it back together. My local tranny shop is the best in the valley for miles around them. You bring them the car, they'll install it, including the tranny filter, drain and refill for only $350. And their work is guaranteed. However, they refuse to do the work if you only bring the valvebody and transgo kit to them. They don't want to deal with the possibility that the customer blames them for their erroneous reinstall of the valvebody.

In response to being a bit too upset from the post above, I'm sure everyone agrees that if you're gonna post in this community then share and help others. Don't be a dick when others are asking for info. C'mon, asking a person how much they paid and responding with No, I tell others how much I spend. Why post such a selfish response. It's just like that other posting with that guy and his "super secret" offset that he refused to tell others his rims were. He got flamed and deserved it.

I guess i view things different because I do all my own mods. Whether 4x4, v8 swap, turbo, etc. No shop will touch my car because the only ones that do work as good as me also rapes their customers. I went a different route than others growing up, I love working with my hands but make $ in the office. Ever since I was 11, I fell in love with tools and fixing things and hacking computers. So growing up I have a whole garage comparable to a performance do it all shop (minus the lift). And I work with computers all day to balance out my life i guess. I never opened up my own shop because I don't and won't wake up at 8am for any reason other than for my own personal enjoyment. Having a shop would require me to do so. Working in computers I come and go as I please. I'm not here to offend anyone, but it's just an explanation why I would consider paying $$$ being raped. I'm a strong believer in DIY, because if I can do it, so can you. If you break it, you can fix it. Once you accept that, everything mechanical becomes easy to work on.
