oil catch can legal or illegal??
By law removing or tampering with any emissions part is not allowed. Removing the PCV system is no different from removing the cats in terms of emissions laws. There is also the minor issue of fire risk with a catch can in the event that the driver never empties the can and it somehow overflows and leaks causing an oil fire. (I've seen dumber things happen)
Personally I love an oil catch can, the LS1 engines are known for blow by so a catch can was the first mod my GTO got. I get 2-3 ounces of oil out of it each time between oil changes and that's 2-3 ounces that are not being dumped into my intake tract and that makes me happy. Emissions laws be damned.

Nothing here makes any sense when it comes to the car world. W/ the number of enthusiasts and people that make a living in the aftermarket car industry in southern california, i can't believe there is no way to certify a vehicle after it has been modded. I know it wouldn't be an easy task, but i'm sure most of us would rather pay for a more expensive/strict smog test if it would save you from worrying about all of the problems if you do get the hood popped on your next traffic stop.
Personally I think a catch can is a great idea, especially on engines with oil consumption / blow bye issues such as the VQ35 and in my case the LS1.
