That certainly is above-and-beyond normal customer service. As you said, the vast majority of companies doing swaps will bill you in advance and refund the deposit when they receive your old unit.

That is what it means...

We will charge you only the amount of the new plenum, on the premise you will send the core back. If we don't receive your core back within a few weeks you will see an additional charge of $200.

Tons of companies charge you on the front end... this means more hassle of credit/debits, etc... We'd rather trust the community that they will do the right thing and help out the other enthusiasts.

By a plenum, return your old plenum. Simple as that.
