Grind when shifting into 3rd - and only 3rd
My Z just started to grind when shifting into 3rd gear. It seems to be the only gear that grinds at the moment. Its got just over 65k on it. It doesnt grind if i shift slowly, but it will if i shift at a normal shifting rate.
I havent been driving it very aggressive. More like moderate driving, whipping around turns, things like that.
I have been driving stick since my first car back in 2001 so i dont want anyone thing think im new to it. Also the clutch pedal is also all the way down, im not half a$$ing it.
Should i assume the worst and think its the trans?

Most likely synchros are wearing out. Could try a fluid change and see if it helps any, might slow down the process a bit.

Had the same problem with my 03 performance with 77K. Just replaced the tranny fluid with Redline MTL made a night and day difference no more third gear synchro grind. Best 60 bucks i have spent on this car so far. Might wanna start there.

Not to be a smart *** or anything, but if there is physical grinding of the gear how would adding fluid stop the grinding? Or would it just postpone it for a while until the problem comes up again?
I wasnt sure on how to search google or this site but where could i get more info on the synchro problem?

Same thing happens to mine, except from fast shifts from 1st to 2nd and SOMETIMES to 3rd. So i need to shift slower in those gears and have people tailgate the hell out of me off the lights
It does tend to get a bit better when the car gets to operating temps but the problem's still there. I'll try changing tranny fluid soon

I have the same problem!! Mine has 77K miles too.. Only happens in 3rd gear and usually only happens if i'm thrashing it!
I had my clutch and flywheel changed recently to a JWT spec and the gearbox oil was changed with this. It has made NO difference at all fyi....
