Default E55 AMG: What needs to be done to take one out?

My brother-in-law just got on a waiting list for the new Mercedes Benz E55 AMG sedan (it must be nice to be a young doctor). The car is an absolute beast-it's got something like 510 pounds of torque...

Anyway, he's a pretty competetive guy so I'm sure at some point he'll try to school me. Here's the million dollar question: can a turbocharged Z33 keep up with the E55? (1/4 mile in 12.39 seconds)

depends on how much boost the turbocharger(s) are running.
depends on how well the engine is built to handle the power.
depends on many other factors.

Actually Ive heard it runs anywhere between 12.4-12.7. Its one sweet ride. You will not be able to keep up with him w/o significant modifications.

New pistons, crankshast, headers, exhaust, high flow cats, 200 shot of N2O, upgraded fuel injectors, upgraded intake and the Procharger should do the trick.

-so it seems that I'll need to have the motor's internals beefed up... I'll probably also need to modify the compression to better suit the turbo system. And then there's the fuel system...

Yikes!! This is gonna cost more than I thought it would but it might be within the realm of possibility (granted I don't blow my VQ to pieces...). Damn those Germans are producing some serious hardware!!

OMG are you nutz?

there is a video floating around in the internet of a 456rwhp mustang cobra that got smoked three times in a row by a STOCK e55.

that e55 is said to run mid 12s from the FACTORY..

unless you want to dump around 20k in the Z, then i wont even bother ...

This is kind of like a guy with a VW Beetle asking what he should do to his car to keep up with your Z.

How about 400rwhp that should do the trick. The E55 is a very fast car but 12.3-5 is very possible with a z with 7-8 psi. and a good set of tires

I will have to agree with Del350.. I saw in a mag that the 350z with the Greddy TT was running 12.7ish I believe.. With proper tuning and push the boost to 8ish with tires this can be a low 12 sec car... Then change some internals pistons, cams, rods along with exhaust and lets not forget clutch and flywheel... Along with all the other mods and push boost to 10 and maybe you might break into the 11's

So basicaly figure out how to make lil more then 425 Hp put some good tires on and with the 350z's weight you should keep up and give a goood fight..

I know a very easy way to beat it for CHEAP.

Get a small knife, and stick it in each of his tires. If you really want to be cheap, just stick his rear tires.

This is not a beatable car unless you do some significant mods to the Z. That would essentially include mods that haven't been created yet.

Maybe high 12's in low temps. I have seen times from 12.4 to 12.7 in mags. At the track one did no better than a 13.2 all night. (90 degree temps) I raced a cl 55 amg with more hp (than the e55) and beat it with a 13.1. High 13's and low 14's at the track for the cl 55 amg. It was supposed to be high 12's in the mags. These amg's have a lot more hp but they are pretty heavy. This is not to say a modified e55 isn't capable of high 11's.

Procharger, exhaust, ECU/fuel with traction and the Z is a mid 12 sec car period.

uh....let me just say that the e55amg (a.k.a. the fastest mercededes production car to date) is ridiculously fast.

i've driven both cars. my dad has one, and i have a peformance model z. honestly, i think it would be a waste of money to try and catch up with that car. look in the back of a car and driver magazine and you'll see the e55 is a car that's has better track times than a ferrari modena.

Think some people are confusing earlier E55 and CL55 with current model with 493 hp! Suckers are rocket sleds. I saw an R&T comparison where the new E55 basically blew off an Audi RS6! LOL Maybe a 300 shot NOS for a grenade motor?

The 2003 cl55 amg has 493 hp true. The 2003 e55 amg only has 469 hp. My procharged Z with exhaust dynoed at 368 rwhp. Its an automatic so put 18% drivetrain loss and that is (roughly speaking) 434 hp and over a 1000 lbs lighter than the E55.

Makes things look a little closer, with the advantage probably going to the Z. Especially when the drivetrain lose is probably closer to 21% for the automatic Z.

I read that it is not as much as the 469 hp (which they say is underrated...way under rated) but the 516 lb.-ft. of torque. This thing can race Z06's. The 350 would need major, major mods to keep up. The 469 hp is more marketing to keep it below the figures of the top of the line SL/S 55's. They originally were going to rate the SL55 at 469 hp, but on dynoing found the numbers closer (many say even better than) 493 hp. The E55 has run equal/slightly faster times than the SL 55.

200 shot of NO, in two stages

Wider 17" wheels + performance tires.

Good luck
