Default whats wrong with 2nd gear?????

i have an 07 with 11k miles and i have noticed how easy it is to spin em when going into 2nd. i only do it sometimes cuz its fun but do not beat my car like some ppl. ever since yesterday everything is fine. When i tried to churp second the gears grinded.. then i tried it like 2 more times and it did it again..?? i KNOW how to drive stick so save the comments, but its just that lately i have to push the cluch down further to accomplish 2nd. has anyone else come across this with your car???

Wrong diagnosis brother. When gears grind, synchros are going out. Quit trying to chirp 2nd gear or you'll soon have to find yourself a new trannny.

The same effing thing has been happening to me recently. I've made the 1>2 shift plenty of times at redline and have gotten really fast at it, but about a week ago I tried it and it grinded going in. I don't deliberately try to make the tires spin, I just shift as fast as I can and thats just what happens. But anyway I was like WTF, because its gotten to the point where its pretty much complete muscle memory shifting fast at redline and I get it every time. I can shift 2>3 even faster and never had a problem.

Its happened maybe 3 or 4 more times since then, always 1>2 shift. When I try to slow down the shift just a little bit I never have any problems at all, goes into second fine. I doubt it's anything mechanical going on with the car thats causing it, I just think for one reason or another my technique is changing slightly and my hand is getting a little ahead of my foot.

wow thats exactly what i was trying to say earlier...i hope its just lazy muscle memory or something...i hope somebody on here had the same problem and went to get it looked at and see what the mechanic said..

When synchros go bad, they grind especially at high rpm shifts. When they get really bad, they start grinding even at lower rpms. No need for a mechanic, if your gears are grinding it's not your clutch. Either tranny or synchros.

tomorrow I'm gonna try something out to see if it's me or the car. I'm gonna ride first up to redline, press in the clutch and when I'm absolutely sure its down all the way I'll pull the shifter into second as fast as I normally would if I was shifting through the gears. I'm gonna leave the clutch disengaged though even after the shifter is in second, so I know that if it grinds it's because of the synchros and not because my hand/foot timing is off.

I really hope its not the synchros and its just me, which I think is what the problem is anyway. Whenever I slow myself down a little bit and make sure my hand isn't moving quicker than my foot I haven't had any problems.

If the tranny/synchros are actually the problem, I'm also curious to know if intake/exhaust/TP will cause the dealer to not fix them under warranty. Anyone?

i just came back in from trying it only twice. i tried shifting 1>2 from about 4k and it did it a lil. but when i ran it to red line it was perfect. i noticed that when i get up to about 40mph i will engage the clutch all the way down and just try putting it in and out of 2nd and it does tend to be a lil rough. even with the clutch still in i will rev to about 4k then 5k and try putting it to 2nd and i will notice it tending to be a lil rough not coming out of first but going into second its almost as if something is in the way sometimes... thanx for the input...keep em coming if you've had similar problems.

I think my synchros are totally fine. I tested it out this morning, did 4 or 5 hard 1>2 shifts at redline, really concentrating on my hand/foot timing and didn't grind once. I think my problems were just from me having a slight noob relapse for whatever reason.

I think what I was doing was after the first time I grinded it, it got to my head and I really tried slowing down my hand so I wasn't pulling it into second too soon, and I actually slowed it down too much to the point that my foot was already engaging the clutch before the shifter was fully in second, causing the grind.

Your synchro is going bad and you are just going through denial, muscle memory? lol and its not a mental thing. If you can't downshift quickly into second at 40mph then you for sure have a bad synchro.

I recently started having this problem about second gear not wanting to engage like if something is in the way I pump the clutch 2x and it goes in fine when i force it in it gives a slight grind I have an 06 and 35xxx miles on it I havent been to the dragstrip in about two months and back then it was all gravey just about two weeks ago this issue popped up and i havent been driving my car agressively what gives? Tranny fluid was changed and im still riding my oem clutch Will this be a worn clutch or bad synchros?
