Pumpkin Interchangeability
Hey guys, I have been doing some research on this topic but do still have a couple of questions.
I have a 2006 350z base model with a 6spd gearbox. The car is turboed, and my goal is to be around 380whp. With the base model having an open diff., traction becomes an issue because I end up spining one wheel.
I was thinking about getting the Queife, but decided to go with a cheaper route. So I am now looking at slightly used OEM pumpkins with OEM LSD's in them. From what I understand the 5spd automatic G35's and 350z's have a final drive of 3.3 where I have the 3.5 in my base model. In case I do come across a pumpkin from a 6spd car or a 5spd auto, I will buy it.
I would just like to make sure that if I have the stub axles, this would be a direct swap without any issues. The drive shaft and axles will bolt right up, and I would be on my way.
Can someone with experience please confirm this?

Don't bother with the VLSD , its junk and willnot last long. It has a usable life of 60k miles if its not autocrossed or tracked.

Well, I picked up a diff. from a 2004 auto with a 3.3 FD. It arrived today and I am hoping to install it tommorow.
I was thinking about taking the diff. cover off, draining the fluid and blasting it all with brake cleaner.
Would cleaning it with brake cleaner be a bad idea? I am not too familiar with the inner workings of a VLSD so advice is apreciated.

how do you know if your diff is bad? I suspect mine sucks cause sometimes when I want to whip it around or rip a doughnut when im pissed off, its tough to get them both to spin right away. they both always spin when going straight or putting it out around a corner though?

the Quiafe is absolutely silent...it makes zero noise.
not all clutch type diffs make noticeably odd noises...it comes down to the quality of the machined parts and the fluid used

I ended up getting the 3.3fd VLSD pumpkin, installed it and drove the car for a couple of weeks. The 3.3fd is a bit too long for 360whp so I want to take the 3.3VLSD and put it in my base 3.5fd diff.
Is this something that one can do in the garage? I am wondering if there will be shimming involved?

auto (3.3) ring and pinions will only mate to differentials from auto pumpkins, and manual ring and pinions only mate to differentials from manual transmission pumpkins. The internals do not swap between pumpkins

Adam are you sure about that (absolutely positive) because I just purchased an auto pumkin (buyer neglected to state is was an auto diff in ad) and I went through with the sale because I intend to completely rebuild it with an aftermarket LSD and all new internals and gears. I thought just the thickness of the ring gear and LSD were different size and not interchangable with the 5 speed diff, pumkin shouldnt matter?

I pray the pumpkin doesn't matter Vader. I hope Z1 comes back and chimes in.
I was under the impression (via reading internet which isn't a smart idea) that for my 5at I would need:
-Manual's pumpkin
-swap my stock lsd for an aftermarket lsd
JUST TO RUN 4.038 final drive.
I have a 3.3 FD and want the 4.038 and via reading I came across the fact that it's just too much work/money if I have to not only get an aftermarket LSD but also an entire pumpkin from a manual 350z.
I need confirmation that I can use my stock 5at pumpkin. If I can use my pumpkin I will get rid of my stock lsd and get the 4.038 FD w/ aftermarket LSD that mates to it.
