2005 with oil consumption :(
well this last oil change i was about 3 quarts low...
my car is a 2005 touring (and is out of warranty, 84k)
mods include: AEM intake, and STRUP HFC's
now ive tried adding a catch can, and it didnt help.
my questions are:
should i take the car to nissan and get the consumption test done?
if i do take it to them, will they still cover the motor since its out of warranty?
seems like this is a very common problem with Z's in general, but im more worried if they are going to be able to cover it since it does not have a warranty. ive read through 100+ threads and posts about this issue and cant really gather anything from it!
thanks in advance

They probably will not cover it, but always worth a try. I have not heard of the 05's having this issue. Do you have an early 06 model? If it's actually an 05, you could have other problems than stated for the 06 consumption issue.
ive been reading that alot of the years are having the problem, not just the 06...
it didnt start till i installed the HFC's
oh well, it goes to nissan monday for an oil change and "consumption test"
the service manager at the dealership i had called, acted clueless about any nissan ever burning oil, so guess ill take it in and get the consumption test done

OP - all you can do now is watch the level and add when appropriate. Keep a log book.
The car has 84,000 miles on it. Cars do burn oil as they age. Years ago, even new cars burned oil. My 1963 Austin Healey Sprite went through a quart every 800 to 1000 miles. That was considered normal. I would just check the oil every couple weeks and add oil as needed. I don't think it's a serious problem.

I read something about the car running too rich because of the HFC's.. Have it tuned and see if that help's with the oil consumption.
I have an 06' with HFC's and am consuming roughly the same amount of oil as you are.

You have an oil burner also. A car that runs rich is too much fuel, tuning it won't fix the issue at hand - burning oil.
They will NOT cover that.. But if you want to waste your time go to the stealership.... Otherwise you have two options
A. Buy new Engine
B. Constantly Monitor Oil and add when needed hoping your engine doesnt blow up

Why would it blow up if he regularly checks the oil and adds when necessary?
