Nismo or Borla ??
What are your opinions - Nismo cat-back or Boral true dual? I've heard that Nismo found no real performance advantage with duals, not to mention their exhaust only consists of three pieces verses several smaller pieces with the Borla - - plus I think the Nismo sounds more exotic - - can you lend any help in the decision?
Thanks,
Steve

NISMO ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sounds amazing!
(plus i dont really like the design of the borla.. its like tons of small pipes you have to put together... and it still is a cat back system)
nismo sounds AMAZING...
do a quick search for NISMO CLIP and you will find some audio clips i put up...

I'm leaning towards Nismo - - I've read the HP figures on the borla are a little inflated and there is really only about 3 HP difference between the two - - I've had Borla before but Nismo is calling me for my Z - - any deals for the Nismo, email me Sz28r@aol.com.

Best 350Z Exhaust System
I rated these systems for the best across the board power increase in this order:
1 - Stillen
2 - Injen
3 - Nismo
4 - Borla
5 - 5Zigen
If they had included B&B I would rate it ahead of 5Zigen.
Exhaust Shootout notes:
They used two cars (2% Hp difference).
Car 1 Baseline = 233.2 Hp - 222.6 ft/lbs torque
Car 2 Baseline = 237.5 Hp - 224.0 ft/lbs torque (stronger engine - lighter wheels)
All manufacturer's systems Hp and torque numbers were lower than advertised. Not a surprise.
Borla (car 2) = 8.2 Hp - 2.7 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
A top end system. Little HP increase until the 5600 rpm to 6500 rpm range. Lost HP & torque below 1800 rpm. 60mm (error actually 58mm). Weighs 52lbs. 1 million mile warranty. Installation - Hard (17 pieces)
5Zigen (car 2) = (-3.4) Hp - .02 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Lost Hp, no real torque gain. Most expensive. Loudest. 58mm pipe. Lightest @ 25lbs. 1 year Warranty. Installation - Medium
Stillen (car 1) = 8.1 Hp - 7.3 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Hp and torque increase starting at 3000 rpm to redline. Lost a little HP & torque below 1800 rpm. 60mm pipe. 74lbs - 10lbs heavier than the stock system. Lifetime Limited Warranty. Installation - Easy
Injen (car 1) = 7.6 Hp - 5.1 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Small torque loss at 2800 rpm. Torque gain starts at 3300 rpm. Small Hp increase starts at 3300 rpm, max Hp from 5800 rpm to redline. Major loss in Hp and torque below 2200 rpm. 49lbs.
1 year Warranty. Installation – Easy
Nismo (car 1) = 6.3 Hp - 4.5 ft/lbs torque (peak values)
Torque increase starting at 3000 rpm. HP increase 4800 rpm to redline. No power losses below 1800 rpm. 54lbs. 3 years, 36K miles id installed by Nissan dealer. Installation - Easy

Go with the Nismo! I did.
Best quality.
I believe it's also the only one with the......flex pieces in the "Y" pipe. Those "Chinese Finger Torture" looking things. They're going to keep the whole system quiet & tight for a much longer time.
Did I mention the QUALITY!!!!
Oh, yah, it sounds great!
Quiet when you want, but, throaty when you want!

Thanks to this thread, I've now decided on Injen when they come out with the straight pipes.
Nismo does sound the best though:

Mines sooooooooo nice
esp. with the testpipes and headers.
I was about to buy a Borla true dual a few weeks ago. After doing some serious research and listening to sound clips of both the Borla and NISMO, I concluded that both sounded better than stock in their own way, but the sound of the NISMO exhaust really give me goosebumps. It sounds absolutely AWESOME!
The other plus's are ease of install (if you want to do it yourself), The vibrational absorbers or whatever their called by the Y pipe; the quality too. People may argue that Borla was reported to give 2HP more. Comon guys, 2HP at the top end near redline? Even if it wasn't within the error of the dyno, I would say that really is insignificant. The post above this describing gains/losses across the whole powerband is more important.
But here is something that really makes me have a little inclination towards NISMO products. They may cost more, but their claims of horsepower gains are not exagerated. NISMO claims a 6 HP increase, and thats exactly what Sport Z magazine got. I respect honest advertising, which is an extreme rarity.
SO my vote is for NISMO all the way. The argument of true-dual vs non dual exhaust is really not applicable to Borla anyway. Just because the gas flow is split in two for part of the exhaust pathway does not make it a dual exhaust system IMHO. The advantage of the NISMO not being a true dual is the absence of any torque losses at the low end, a minor point, but one to consider nonetheless.
