Default When is a flywheel to light?

Woops getting my tranny replaced... So I figure Im going to replace the flywheel...

Options...

Nismo 21LB
JWT 14LB
JUN 14LB

or an 8lb fly wheel (which name i forget only available via Performance Nissan) that is 7.25" in diamater rather then 8. ANd requires a different clutch...

I hear the 8lb wheel is like revving a motor cycle...

Do you think this would drive me nuts being a mostly every day driver?

To give you an idea how much I drive im at 15800 since april and my car was in the shop for almost 2 months out of that...

Opinions please!

Nismo is closer to 21 lbs- My buddy has it and says he can barely tell the difference from stock. JWT and Jun are both about 14 lbs.

When is a flywheel to light?

When it shatters, comes through the firewall, and severs your shiftin' arm. Then it's too light.

I'd think an 8lb. flywheel is too light for the street.

when you can no longer start the car going uphill without holding the revs at 2grand and praying.

none the less Id like to get the 14lb flywheel, in my own head I figure the down side is weaker launch and power shifts since the engine doesnt have as much momentum, but on the plus side, if you dont perfectly rev match, it should cause the car to lurch less on gear shifts because the engine has less momentum.

Are you planning to drag race it or road race it?

In stop and go traffic or around town with a the lightweight flywheel you will have to rev the engine higher to get going. At the drag strip you will have to rev the engine much higher to come out of the hole the same as you do now.

Now if you are road racing and coming out of an apex down the straightaway then it's great.

Also the engine may idle rougher with the lightweight flywheel.

8 is not streetable......it will be a PIA to drive (plus I imagine its aluminum, which is also less than desirable for a car of this weight IMHO..chromoly is a better choice, such as JWT or JUN).

What does the stock flywheel weight?

We have the JWT flywheel in our car. No adverse affect, and revs like a mother. Valet's have only stalled it once. In my SE-R, I have seen a valet stall it 3 times in a row before getting under way. So this one is much more streetable.
