Okay, I checked first thing this morning (it was like 32 degrees) so it was cold for sure and saw the oil in between the H and L so if it is like everyone says "check after letting it sit overnight" then it seems to be at the appropriate level.

The appropriate level is at (or at least close to) the H mark. How far down is it after only 1k miles? Refer to this graph to see how much oil is gone...

Are you intentionally being a smart ***? Is it just below H, halfway down, almost to L, etc.? If you have driven 1k miles and it is barely below H, then great... if it is almost to L after 1k miles, your engine has oil consumption/leaking issues that need fixing.

i am not intentionally being a "smart ***" i just am used to checking oil and making sure it is about halfway between the H and L and that being normal. if i had to be exact on what i saw..after leaving the car overnight and checking in the morning, it looked as though the oil was 60-70% towards the H side
