I don't want to turn this into a Mishimoto bash thread, but when searching through the older threads I didn't see a successful install. Everyone has had some type of lasting problem most notiably with noise, yeah noise from an oil cooler. I tried to install the second kit I recieved from the manufacter after having problems with the first (great customer service BTW) but the two kits had the same problem with a whine in the core at anything over 1500 rpm. When I eliminated the core from the system there was no whine. This led me to believe the Z runs a pressure that the kit was not designed for. Also I noticed the AN fittings had a hard time sealing properly. Because these are easy to overtorque I'm not going to blame the kit but the problem is worth noting.

Anyone do this kit on their Z sucessfully? No noises, no leaks.

 

I'm curious about this as well, since i'll proabbly be installing one this spring. Does this come with a thermostat?
I have their radiator, and it's been a great piece. That's the only thing i have that they make though.

 

I would go with the stillen/setrab unit. I have it installed and it performs flawlessly
with no install issues...

 

I was going to switch to a Setrab unit and get some custom lines made at a local industrial hose shop. As far as the thermostat i'm still in the air. Here in So Cal it seems temps don't normal stay low enough to be a problem with overcooling. But if they are I'll probably go with the Mocal unit.

 

I also have the radiator and I'm happy with it. But the oil cooler seems to be for cars that don't generate a lot of oil pressure. I'd say stay away until they address the issue.

I had the same issue as you guys do with my set-up, but I thought it only pertained to me. I e-mailed Mishimoto, and actually got a response within the hour. Supposedly, they are releasing a larger capacity oil cooler to solve the issue we are having with it.

 

+1. I have the Stillen unit and the highest oil temp I've reached is 93C or about 200F, even while running the supercharger hard. No noise or any issues at all.

 

What size core do they run?

I'm running the HKS oil cooler which comes with a pretty big core, 200 x 200 x 32 (15 row) and i can hear a slight whine when i have the stereo off. I think no matter what, an oil cooler is going to produce a slight amount of "drag" and make some noise.

 

I the core is listed below. It has a similar size to the Stillen and Nismo approved Setrab but my be down on quality.

That's odd, when I blew pressurized air through the system, the core was the only thing to pass with little or no noise. Everything else made a noise of some type.

Did you have a problem with the AN fittings? I got two kits from them and one line always had a leak. I though it might be from over torquing the fittings but they don't show signs of over-torquing.

 

Just a heads up, I decided to get some aftermarket lines and fittings from Summit racing and use the Mishimoto core. Also grabed a Mocal Thermostatic adapter and the noise is gone. My guess is the noise were generated in the fittings but I can't say the adapter or lines didn't have an issue.

 

Sorry for bringing back such an old thread, but when I went to Formula D this summer. I was admiring Matt Waldin's car, and got to talking to him about everything he uses on it. He mentioned his Mishimoto oil cooler and since I was in the market for one, I asked his personal opinion on the product. He said that the set up was working great, he had no issues, but that he had installed it up front next to his intercooler for better air flow. I found some pics online that you can kind of see it in, but if he uses it, likes it, and has nothing but good things to say about it.. It seems like it's going to be a solid product.

 

A year later and a better understanding, I think they just have a bad adapter design but I can't say the lines were eliminated from the list. The core is working fine for me and I can't really complain considering I still made the kit for less than a Stillen unit (which was my second choice). Does anyone know if they re-spec'd the kit recently?

 

SOrry i know this is an old thread. How is your oil cooler doing? I have a g35 twin turbo and i have no room for a upgraded rad. Oil cooler would probably be best for me. How long of the lines did you end up getting?

 

The kit I bought in '09 had issues, I think the adapter was the culprit, but the core has held up quite well. Ultimately, I replaced everything but the core, so I can't honestly give an opinion on it.

I would however suggest putting a kit together yourself based on the car's needs, boost + VQ = hot oil. Hot oil = average to large cooler.

 

It looks like Mishimoto is re-introducing this kit. Any thoughts? I had forgotten about this thread when I received an email from Mishimoto recently..

I have the Stillen as well. No issues at all. Easy install.

 

i plan on getting the Z1 set up. it used setrab cooler with mocal plate.

 

And the beat goes on. I just purchased a Mishimoto oilcooler and ran across this thread by accident.I am beginning to wonder if I made a good choice with the buy. I guess I will find out once I get the unit and have it installed in my car. I have a 2006 Z. I got the oilcooler that comes with the thermostatic unit.
