2006 350z Engine Replacement
The engine on my z seized up. I bought a replacement engine from a salvage yard out of a 2006 G35. But the heads are different. Mine has some plugs that the G35 engine does not have. I was told that a same year G35 engine would work but I guess not. This is so frustrating. I haven't had my car for a month now and I'm going nuts. What other models have the same engine? Or at this point I'm considering rebuilding mine and boring and stroking it. Has anyone on here done this? If so how did you handle fuel management.
Thanks

Is there any reason u can't use your wiring harness from the blown engine?
They should be the same, except for the wiring.

Most 2006 350z's come with the VQ35DE Revup engine, IF you bought a 6MT (manual transmission) model. If you have a 2006 automatic or convertible 350z, then you have a standard VQ35DE.
As for G35's, I don't know for sure; I would imagine it would have been the same thing, where the 2006 6MT G35's came with the Revup engine and the automatic G35's come with the standard VQ35DE

That explains it, mine is a 6MT. The G35 I bought the engine from was an automatic, the guy said it was the same. I knew I had a Rev Up engine and that it was different. Thanks for the input guys. I took the engine back today along with mine and showed him the difference. He said to give him three days to find me a motor.

Just a word of caution when trying to swap VQs from one model year to another. We swapped a V35HR into the Nissan Sport Project 350Z T2 racecar. Project T2 is also a '06 model and we found it was much more involved (both mechanically and electronically) than you'd expect. You can read more about it in the last two issues of Nissan Sport Magazine and I started a more advanced thread about the topic here:

I want to do a direct replacement of my engine. NOT really looking to put a different engine in. I had contemplated that originally but then read that it was too much trouble.

If you have a non revup engine in your car now and want to use a revup engine this is how you do it. Several vendors on here make plugs for the rev up heads, to use the non revup cams. Or you can check your heads out and swap the heads. Or you can leave the exhaust cams unplugged and make less power on the low end.

All you really need is the core. You can swap everything over (heads included) from your existing (dead) block over to the replacement one and you are back in business.
Of course if you are looking for the minimalist labor route and don't want to get into the details of rebuilding a motor, I see what you are trying to do...just pull one motor and drop another. Bing, Bang, Boom... Done. Gotcha.
