Default only to the ones who have FI...

(this thread is written with the assumption that the 350z w/ a FI kit installed will last more than 3 - 4 years).

those of you who either have the ATI/Stillen SC or are waiting for a turbo kit to come out.... what are you people planning to do in three years???

i love the car to death. but i honestly think in three years i'd want to purchase another car. keeping this in mind... who would buy a 350z with a supercharger or even a twin tubro kit installed in them???? or even worse... which car dealer would accept an FI 350z? and even if they did purchase it, wouldn't the value of the 350z drop dramatically (relative to a 3yr old stock 350z)??

you see, i am willing to take my chanes to install a FI kit into my car. but the ONLY thing stoping me is the devaluation of the car. i want to know what you people out there... who already have forced induction in their car are planning to do? are u guys planning to keep the car until it breaks down? if not... how are u guys planning to trade it in or re-selling it? if so, how???

one idea is to re-install the stock parts before trading it in or re-selling it. what do u guys think? do u think it will be too complicated?

as i said... i really want to install a FI kit.... but i'm dying to figure out a way to re-sell or trade in the car with NO PROBLEMS in about 3 years.

any suggestions out there?

thanks.

julgi.

If you want to do big mods to the car you have to fully beleive this statement:

desire for vehicle modification > thought of vehicle future

Don't worry about it! Have fun! Cross that bridge when you get there!

Well I plan on having my Z as a weekend/ goof around car. I have the Stillen SC and am getting the first intercooler installed also. I dont plan on selling my z for at least 3 or 4 years. At that time I will probably install the stock parts and sell it or just keep it. Hopefully there will be a newer version (different body), only minor adjustments to body and I can install my supercharger with minor tweaks into the new one. If not, oh well. I will just have to be happy that I got some fun out of the car even though I put close to $55k into it ($35k for car, $4k wheels/tires, $4k stereo, $13k performance mods)

I tend to fall in love with cars and keep them forever. I am 41 years old and the Z is only my 4th car ever.

Age 16....75 Dodge Van fully customized 70's style! Kept it for 7 years and sold it.

Next was 84 Toyota Celica GTS. Kept it for 15 years and sold it (for $3500) It was pristine and had 115K miles on it.

Next was 92 Dodge Stealth TT....Still have it and it has 107K on it. It is my "Winter Beater" when I gargage the Z.

Present, 03 350Z.......................................

I plan on having it a LONG time. If I do sell it, I hope to have got my money's worth out of it by then. I'll never get out of it what I put into it but I don't think anyone who mods a car ever expects to.

If you don't get too crazy, you can easily return it to stock in a few years. This would be a feasible option if you were happy with something like the ATI kit plus a few other boltons. If you want more and take the steps needed for big power, you'll be going inside the engine, at which point I'd say you're flirting with "the point of no return".

Dr bonz....I am really interested in your experience with the procharger...(I'm the family doc from winnipeg)...I drive pedal to the metal on a daily basis...will the engine put up with this?
I read on this site about the fellow who blew his engine with 300 miles on his procharger...what s your comment also what is your 0-60 times like.

There will be some great cars coming out in the next few years that will be very tempting to trade up to - think back 4 years when the new Z was only a gleam in poppa Nissan's eye. This is the very reason I would not mod to FI - at least for awhile. FI will likely negatively affect the durability of the engine/drive train, especially if you're going to use the added power frequently. We just don't know the extent of the possible degradation. As far as re-installing the stock parts for a resale it's only acceptable IMO if the buying party is informed that it had been previouly FI'd. We're all consumers at some level. Ethics aside, I'd guess an FI mod'ed Z would have some sale value anyhow, unless we find many FI'd Z's on the curb with blown engines in the next couple of years.

This is a great forum to keep track of what's going on and how well the mod's are working - a consumer's wonderland ;-)
