OK guys, here's the story. I changed my rear driver's side wheel bearing the other day (for the second time
) and bolted everything back up and noticed the axle clicking/clunking. So I decided to unbolt the axle today to put some grease on it. I went to undo the axle nut and it came off about 1/4 of the way (yes I removed the cotter pin lol). Now it's stuck and will only go about 1/4 turn each way. I sprayed some wd-40 on it and it didn't do much. I tried a powerful impact, breaker bar, etc..
Now I'm screwed...How do I get it off? Anyone have any other ideas?
Thanks

wow.. that sux.. Never had to remove that part on my G but if its cross-threaded you'd need a super powerful impact/hammer and hope the nut gives before ruining the axle threads. The normal tightening torque of that nut though, according to my G manual, is over 150 ft-lbs and so even using a torch and nut-splitter, if you could find one that size, will be tough.
May sound crazy but if you can fit a dremel diamond cutting wheel in there you may be able to slice the nut enough to weaken and loosen it from around the threads. This will enable the impact wrench to do the rest of the work and may save the axle. If you use the dremel just don't go too fast or deep as you just want to weaken the nut and not remove it or cut into the axle threads.
Good luck. Tell us what you find.
