Default Aluminium valve covers succesfully installed. Part 4

And now the VQ35 is forever. I'm using the Pathfinder/QX coil pack for cylinder 1 and the rest are from my G35 without any misfire even though they do not seal on the surface. I was suppose to use an IP Cosworth spacer to raise the upper and lower plenum .25" to clear the breather tube on the driver side valve cover but the bolts I got with it are for the Cosworth plenum and not the stock lower and upper plenum so the bolts were too long except 1. I also had to remove the AAM TB spacer as a result and the TB is still pushing down on the breather tube. I have to order bolts from Fastenal to install the spacer to make the TB clear the breather tube and install the AAM spacer back.

I also had to put together the PCV system and I'm using some hoses with a few reducers to bring down the size of the hoses so I can connect it to the catch can that has smaller 5/16 connections. I will replace the connector on the catch to a bigger size to match the hose connected to the PCV valve.

The oil filler tube was also too high and did not clear the hood and the hood only latched on. So I cut the tube by 1" and bought a radiator hose from Advanced to connect it back together. Much cheaper than machining the valve covers which I did not want to do because they are rare and I want to keep them OEM. It's also expensive even though it's a simple job.

I have a code for bank 2/driver side air fuel sensor so once I replace that sensor everything should be good. There are no vacuum leaks and idle is solid and if there was a leak, I would get codes for both sensors as before. Will replace the sensor next week.

I took some pics here and there but I was in a hurry because I worked on it from 6PM until 1AM.

This is a very promising lifetime replacement in my opinion, and should rekindle enthusiasts that are upset over the plastic valve covers which I still think last long enough.

they look awesome.

i'm confused at your statement that people think the composite covers don't last. How are people breaking valve covers?! I've never heard of someone complaining they don't "last". I know they look like crap but never heard they don't last.

The spark plug seals start leaking after about 5 years. I got 110k miles out of the originals.

I'm using OEM seals for the Pathfinder/QX4 for those aluminium valve covers. The seals from the plastic covers do not fit in the aluminium ones.

I ordered a set of aluminum valve covers from Z Fever racing, to make a long story short I'm 90 percent sure that a set of aluminum valve covers from 2001 maxima VQ30 will fit VQ35DE. Someone with the time and resources should check it out.

I dont' know for sure but i do know that the vq30 "conversion" gasket set has the same gaskets as the vq35 so the valve covers are at least the same shape so that sounds promising.

Andrei, do your coil pack boots lack about 1/16 from seating flush with the spark plug tube/valve cover?

I'm glad I finally got rid of the plastic covers. The TB can also be cleared with a 1/2 upper plenum spacer for the stock upper plenum.

I even plan on taking them to Europe if I decide to move back next year, even though the only cars with the VQ35DE in Europe are cars that have been imported by people and are very rare. Cars in general in Europe are insanely expensive.

Right now I'm waiting for my bolts to get delivered and I'll install the IP spacer today.

Yes, I took a pic. It does not misfire.

Nice work - thanks for sharing. Just to clarify, if the spark plug seal does go bad, you still have to remove the entire valve cover to change the o ring, correct?

And just as an FYI, you can now buy pre-cut valve covers that allow the O -rings to be swapped out.

yeah, but do they look as nice as a set of polished aluminum valve covers?

The spark plug tube seals on these covers do not go bad. The gasket on the heads will which is normal and expected. Yes, you would have to remove the cover and pull out the seals MAKING SURE NOT TO SCRATCH THE FLANGE.

Andrei, could you post a pic of the passenger side valve cover? One that would show the #1 coil pack. It would be greatly appreciated.

Also do you have the part number for the #1 coil pack? There are 2 part numbers from the Nissan catalog listed and 22448-4W001 doesn't seem to be the right one.

There is a pic in the first thread when I tried them on 2 years ago of that particular coil pack.

Thanks I appreciate your prompt response! I have since discovered Z fever racing machined down the valve cover neck for the #1 coil pack so the pathfinder #1 coil pack doesn't work now.

You can get Nissan valve cover seals Part #22448-4W001, place them on the outside of the valve cover. It will fill the gap completely, center the coil pack tubes, and eliminate the catch-all space created by the 350z coilpacks.
