What is this bolt hole for on the driver's side valve cover?

That is called a screw hole.

It looks like the place you pointed out is "D" on the lower left. There's a bolt and bracket there. For more see:

Thanks for the diagram but the bracket I see on mine is bolted to the cover here, pointed at in red. When I replaced my valve cover the one in yellow was empty on the original, with no bolt and no bracket.

On this engine, the one you pointed to in red is empty.



Maybe they changed the routing of the harnesses. IDK

id imagine its the same mold they use for all the vq35 variants in different cars, which probably require different bolt locations. just an educated guess

I literally LOL'd also... But yeah, you're probably right. That's how auto makers save money.
