Default ever blow ur motor? if so.....

How many miles did you have on it?
0-50k
51-75k
76-100k
101-125k
126-150k

what heavy mods if any did you put on it?

i wanted to get a general idea as to how long these engines will last and what they can take.

if you didnt do an Oil Change religiously @ 3k miles please tell.

The VQ is Nissans' most highly acclaimed engine in history. There's a reason for it.

Outside of FI/NOX applications, you won't find many blown.

I believe these engines are made to last up to something like 200,000km.

But failure can happen due to so many different issues so its a real toss up if you get the lucky engine that makes it.

I busted a piston ring land @ 10k miles, car still ran, no hole in the block, but it still required a rebuild-> but this was at 18-19 psi on pump gas through a twin turbo setup

all replies are very reassuring!
I want this baby to last and i wont do any turbo or nitrous. just exhaust, intake, and a couple boltons like plenum and manifold tower.

makes me happy to not hear many replies

1 . Mine failed at 103k well cared for miles, thrown bearing, engine ruined.. with only the parts you mentioned installed. AND a proper tune. Its a good engine, but still.. dont build yourself too snug of a security blanket tho. The engine repair is surely near the purchase price of your car.
2. lack of replies is most likely due to my previous mention.. thers already a thread elsewhere for it

talked to a local Z owner that had 220k miles on his original motor. he said he only had to change out battery belts, alternator, starter, and new clutch. everything else original.

yep, truly the luck of the draw.
Bet he was stock too, and drove it daily like a normal person, not like a nut.

Thats how to keep an engine alive.
High rpms, downshifting.. etc.. all leads to premature failure on anything. Its either your tires, your clutch, or your internals.. somethings always got to give.

bonesz33 is another local on this forum with 175k miles on his as well. he redlines every time he drives. we guessimated he has done over 8k WOT passes since owning the car. and he is on the top 25 list of the fastest bolt on Z on drag racing portion of this forum. truely amazing.

I will say just because you're tuned doesn't make your engine more reliable. The goal for a tune (aside from correcting a/f a bit) is ultimately increasing your power, which means more timing, more chance of detonation, more stress on the internals, you get it.

If anyone wants longevity keep everything 100% stock. Even an intake will reduce the life of your engine -- a pop charger lets an alarming amount of dirt past compared to a stock filter for example.
