Yeah talked with goeff from EPS today for a while today and went back and forth between the 222/226 or the 226/230. I ended up with the 226/230 and hoping I can find someone good down here in ohio to tune my motor.

Thanks. I actually have learned alot from your build thread!! (Actually the one that made me make the plunge for the motor build!!!) Format is borrowed as well.

My goal for this thread is to document the build and track total cost so everyone can get a good number for a mild engine build and swap.

Just ordered a new cam retainer plate, ARP cam bolts, rear main seal, rear gasket, LS2 cam gear, and C5R timing chain. Should be enough to complete the rotating and timing assembly.

Time for an update. Got the timing stuff all installed!!

The new cam, all lubed up and only one place to go...

It went in so good!!

Rear Seal and Rear Cover are in!!

I was interrupted by the mail man. He had a present for me!! Timing chain damper came in!!

Cam retainer plate is in and I drilled and tapped the block for the new timing chain damper!!

Cam timing mocked up. Dot to dot. Pretty simple.

Timing gear, C5R chain, and timing chain damper installed!!

All done for today. Short block is almost done!! Just need an oil pump and front cover.

Hey man, nice build so far.
I did a ls6 in my 240sx a couple years back and just spent a sh** load cause i bought most everything for direct bolt on. Engine mount etc and everything.
Are you going to fab or buy a kit to put in. Cause i`d love to learn the specs etc from your build to do my 04z, thinkin on an ls3 instead of just turboing`rear if i did` cause i love relibablilty and not always having to mess with vacuum leaks etc.
Thanks

ps, if you want with as a DD, dont get anything bigger the a tv2, cam specs 232-234, it was just a smig to big for dailying it. I`d go for something just a bit smaller

edit: Saw your specs... Perfect, I`m sure you`ll love that size cam

Thanks man!! I am going to order a mellings oil pump and front cover here shortly to finish the short block...inching the the finish line. From the calculations on my cost tracking spreadsheet that I am keeping, I am 62.12% done with my motor build right now.

I think I am going to buy the Fueled Racing mount system as I dont want to have an enormous amount of down time fabricating parts. Unless anyone has blueprints of mounts and cross members that I could copy.

I spent alot of time researching those cam specs (and every other part, balancing cost and goals) and talking with vendors on LS1tech. I am excited to see how it will drive, but it will now come down to how good the tune is.

As for the LS3, it depends on how much you want to spend for a block. An ls3 would be easily 5k for a used motor. I did the LS6 because I got the block and about $400 bucks. If i ever built another new one of these I would get an LS2 bare block and stroke it. parts for the ls3 and ls7 are still expensive imo.

If you want to know all my specs and parts list I am going to keep the first post updated as best as possible and I have a running parts list in a spread sheet if anyone is interested. Just PM if you want it.
