Default Is this an 03 or 04 transmission?

It's out of our 2004 Touring, I even purchased the CZP 04-06 ball stud replacement and when we popped it apart we found this. WTF...

That looks like a stock 03 ball stud. How can this be? 120K on engine/trans.

I can't answer your question, but if it is a manual tranny, make sure it is model or release #9. (CD 009) If you use anything else, you are wasting your time.

It is a CD # 001

122,000 miles on it, fresh GL4 syntorc 75w-85 and only issue is grind into 5th gear if you don't shift slow.

Nissan 350Z manual transmission model numbers CD001 - CD008 have an inclination to fail. The CD009 is the most desired model.

If you search any 350Z forum internet site for "transmission" or "CD009" you will get many threads that explain it further.

I just went through the same thing with my 04 transmission. 5th gear grind except when shifting slowly. You can re-build or replace, after a lot of research I chose to replace with a CD009 I bought off a member here.

All of them have #1 stamped on them. You can only tell if it's a CD009 by a sticker. My '04.5 came with a CD008 BTW.

2005 was the first year for the 009 I believe and djamps is correct in saying that the sticker will list what version it is.

Well darn. I couldn't tell you guys what transmission this is then cause the sticker's print has been rubbed clear off at this point in the vehicle's life.

Transmission has 122,000 on it. We just installed Exedy OEM clutch kit with jwt flywheel. 75w-85 syntorc gear oil. Shifts well (slightly notchy (Edit: Sometimes)) through all gears, but fights back when throwing it into 5th from any other gear when rpm's are higher than about 2500. Car drives beautifully otherwise. I think we will drive it the way it is till further issues occur.

My 2006 Z with 74,000 miles is now finally having this infamous 5th gear grind.
I didn't check which transmission model it has, but I am gussing it should be CD009.

The 5th gear was never abused and only used during normal street driving.
So I believe this 5th gear grind will eventually happen to Z & G35 with 6MT transmission.

Cross your fingers if you don't have the 5th gear grind yet.
