Default jwt or z1 clutch?

got 140k on the oem clutch, and the throwout bearing is getting worse. noise for the first 5 min of driving every time i push in the clutch.

figured might as well change the clutch while im at it since its probably on it last leg anyways.

now, im not concerned with chatter, as i have art pipes, ap single and solid diff mounts. so i doubt the chatter will even be noticeable.

now my question, is the $150 difference worth it? jwt with chromoly pivot ball and ss line is $850. while the z1 would be $700 with the same supporting mods.

should i go with the tired and true JWT and forget the unproven z1 clutch? or is the z1 clutch better then i think?

I didn't like my Z1 clutch at all. I had it on less than 2000 kms and I am swapping it out for the JWT unit.

edit. reason Z1 sucks...

clutch slip after a few laps on the track after break in period. if you never track and just did light street driving it might be good enough for you? But why bother?
The Z1 flywheel is an even worse product. But I'll save that for another day.

Z1 parts are like the store brand at the grocery store. I don't believe Z1 designs or manufactures anything. I'm not saying their parts are junk, I'm just saying I would prefer to buy from a company that is in the business of designing and manufacturing parts, not reselling and installing parts.

I've not had any experience with clutches from Z1.However,I have had experience with their exhaust parts, hoses, rotors etc.
All have been comparable or better than the "name" brands.
In reality, companies like JWT don't make their own parts.
There is no JWT factory. Also, there is no Z1 factory. No Nismo factory, too.
They all contract their parts out to their standards and design.Z1 is
owned and operated by Z guys.Thats all they do.They understand the car.
As with tire reviews comparing a tire that was designed for street driving,
if I was tracking my car,I'd go with a brand that had stffer side walls, designed for racing purposes. Its possible that the Z1 clutch is not
up to race standards.

For the driving that most do,its a great product for the price.

True, most sub out the manufacturing of their parts. The difference (between jwt and Z1) is one company engineers, researches, and develops parts, and one simply slaps their logo on parts. For instance, a friend of mine owns a company that makes skateboards and skateboard parts, but he says all the parts are just re branded.

I'm just speaking out my azz here, but I would think JWT's parts are patented.

I have purchased 80% of my Z products from Z1, and have never had a problem. I don't know about the reliability of the clutch kit at the track, but for everyday use I have never had a problem.

JWT historically used Exedy clutches manufactured to their spec (at least that was the case on older Zs, not sure if the same for Z33). I've had 2 JWT clutches for my Z32s and loved them; OEM fit and finish, great holding capacity and a good pedal feel.

I agree with this and when you boil it down, who is going to represent their product best, provide the best customer service and give you the best value on the product.

thanks for the comments so far. my Z will mainly see highways, but it will see the occasional 1/4 mile and autocross. so its looking the the JWT is held in high regard, while the z1 has seen early failures.
