Modded Z Shoot Out... Heavly Modded vs TILTON
So, As some may know Jeff and I went down to Irrwindale raceway to run some 1/8ths... it was jam packed to the rafters and ran 3 runs...
Here is the best one of us going head to head...
On the Right Lane, We have the Lemans Sunset 350Z driven by Jeff@Performance featuring the following mods and weiging in at 270 horses...
Jeff = Nismo Cold Air intake / Nismo camshafts / Nismo Headers / Random Technology High Flow Cats / Nismo Exhaust / UR Pulley Set / Techno Square ECU / Nismo Wheels wrapped with Pilot Sports / Stop Tech Brakes 14.1" All around / NISMO FLYWHEEL & CLUCH...
In the Left Lane, we have the Silver Stone 350Z driven by Jason@Performance featuring the following mods and weiging in at 252 horses...
Jason = K&N Typhoon Intake / Random Technology High Flow Cats / Nismo Exhaust / Nismo Wheels wrapped with BFG KDW's / TILTON 8lb FLYWHEEL & 2DISK CERAMETALLIC 7.25" RALLY CLUTCH...
Yellow, yellow, yellow, GO!
Jeff;
60 - 2.312
330 - 6.167
1/8 - 9.328 @ 80.19MPH
Jason;
60 - 2.449
330 - 6.319
1/8 - 9.478 @ 78.69MPH
I can tell you I have very dificult time launching the car with this flywheel from a dead stop on a drag strip and on the street... its gotten better on the street now that I am used to it... On the drag strip.. the first run, jeff looked back and saw me going sideways down the track... if you give it just a bit too much gas you loose all controll of the rear wheels... I launched from idle speed...
All parts on our cars and more are available from http://www.performancenissanparts.com including the Tilton Flywheel & Clutch package which will be shipping in the upcoming weeks!

Hmm, so you did considerbally good since jeff had a shitload more than you. Is it because you got the extra light flywheel? What is the K&N typhoon intake? How does that look like?

those numbers are very low considering the mods you have done. for a comparison i consistently run 9.4@79 when i only had my intake/ground kit/ur pulleys. i hope that your cars are in fact capable of much better times or something isnt right here...

in FL you are also at sea level...
we are in cali in mountins...
above sea level...
jeff and I are both not drag racers.. nor do we ever practice dragging...
well. I konw im not... jeff could have spent years dragging I dont know..
we prefer road racing and tracks... that is what we are making our cars for...
we wanted to do a run to see what the different configurations would doo..
im sure with an experienced drag racer behind the wheel of our cars it would be a different story...

It shouldn't matter that you are above sea level. Didn't you do your dyno's above sea level?
Anyhow, I was just wondering if after all the time driving your car, that you think the Tilton clutch is a worthwhile mod. I'm sure it does great things for you at the track, but is it enjoyable, tolerable, hateful, or "other", while you're on the road?

Is this in palmdale again (damn near a mile high and hot, thin air)? You guys need to go to CA Speedway-- that's where most of the times are compared to down south. LACR isn't what everybody looks to now to compare times anyore since CA Speedway is open-- it's only a short drive from you guys too since the 210 is never crowded.

Those 60' times are terrible...hopefully with practice you can bring them down.
From what I have heard, a lighter flywheel is a significant detriment to drag racing. Something to do with the inertia of the flywheel when shifting. WTF do I know, I hate drag racing.

yeah, your 60' need some work.
If you get your launch right, your times will come down.
For comparison, on my 14.2 (not my best run, but the only time slip I have) run my 1/8th was:
9.184@78.5 with a 2.1 60' time - stock car (even stock shitty tires)
Your car is trapping a bit higher so it is capable of better times with a decent launch

jason no worries...well actually your right about stock power right now with your trap speed while jeff's car is defenitly mid to low 13s with his 80mph trap speed. 60 foot times are not great for both of you guys but i can only imagine how hard it is to launch your car. My times in Irwindale are in my sig

wow that flywheel has got to be a b*tch to drive daily around with, and i cant imagine the first couple times at the drag strip. If you had to do it over again, would you go with the tilton, or go with something a little heavier like the nismo or the JWT? The times will get better, it justs takes practice.

It's tough to compare the cars though with two inexperienced drag racers driving. I get your point though. I think it's great you guys are going to town on your cars, keep it up! Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work, I didn't realize theparts counter paid so well?

That's it? That's what my car did with just my custom HKS Exhaust at the same track... Actually got the video to prove it and slips.. I have base model which is way harder to launch because I have no LSD... And my 60foots were about the same as yours interesting....

Thanks for the post guys. Just going through my last timeslips to see how you might have done in the quarter.
Here's my closest to Jeff's
60' - 2.34
330 - 6.211
1/8 - 9.35 @ 79.85
Netted me a 14.0 at 101.35mph in the quarter. Considering his car is quite a bit faster than stock after 80mph I would imagine he probably is 2 or 3 tenths quicker that time and a mile or two per hour. So maybe 13.75 @ 103mph. Pretty good for quarter mile noobs on a crowded track.
and
Closest to Jason's
60' - 2.47
330 - 6.36
1/8 - 9.51 @ 78.52
Netted me a 14.4 at 99.88 in the quarter. Also, I read a rough estimate is multiply 1/8 by 1.55 to get 1/4.
The above 101.35 was my fastest trap. For reference this was my best et run.
60' - 2.1
330 - 5.867
1/8 - 8.97 @ 79.73
1/4 - 13.85 @ 100.97
That clutch sounds pretty tough. I was thinking about an upgrade, but I drag more than I track so it's probably not for me. I was unable to ever get below 2.0 in the 60'. The Z just wants to spin. I think money would be better spent getting traction.

A 2.06 60 ft got me
an 8.92 @ 80 1/8th and
a 13.8 @ 100 1/4.
I have a lightweight flywheel (harmful to a 1/4 mile)
and an exhaust system for this run. No popcharger or pulley which I am sure would get me at least another .5. JK.

This ended up being a lot of fun!! Time for some better track tires and a bunch more time on the track as well. With the next round of mod's being done this next week, we will have to go back soon!! As the track is just a couple miles from the dealer, it's easy for us to get over there on Thursday nights..... too bad it's not a 1/4 mile
