I am having obvious signs of the clutch slipping at higher rpms. I have 100k on the car. So I am looking to change the clutch. Does anyone have any suggestion on brand and/or type to use? I don't need anything aggressive, it's my daily driver. I've looked at several kits. Several come with a flywheel. Is it necessary to replace the flywheel at this point? Can or do I need to resurface the flywheel?

I read that you change the dual mass flywheel when you replace the clutch for the second time....
Any thoughts on this?

 

First off; welcome to the forums!

Second; yes, replace the flywheel when you replace the clutch.. you might as well while it's open.

I too was worried about replacing my clutch, and didn't want anything too aggressive, but also wanted something that could handle the power I have dreams of (lol). It isn't too stiff or too soft, in my humble opinion, I would say it is a perfect clutch for a daily driver. And to answer another question, you cannot resurface a dual mass flywheel.

 

Go jwt clutch and fly wheel and change out the clutch pivot joint while you're down there

 

the JWT package is great…best balance of performance and reliability…the price isnt the lowest but it's pretty fair…I am working on my 4th clutch…#3 was replaced because the engine was out and a replacement clutch plate was $120...

it's a stout clutch that is not overly stiff & will definetely handle any bolt ons.

 

JWT clutch/flywheel is a great recommendation. I just bought them myself and love the feel. Not too stiff and is supposex to handle nearly 600hp. The revs are quick with the new flywheel too. One other suggestion is to replace the clutchline with the stainless steel line. Its only $30 and takes the mushy feeling out of the pedal after installing a heavier duty clutch

I just installed a JWT clutch/flywheel and a wilwood clutch cylinder. Great product, great performance, great price. You won't regret it.

 

First of all...Thank you guys for your response. When I first posted I said obvious signs of needing a clutch replacement. I said that based on my knowledge of american muscle cars. I am going to try to explain this the best I can. The car shifts fine through all gears at low rpms. When I floor it the car revs high rpms but doesn't move like it sounds. every now and then it feels like I have full power and will plant me in the seat but most of the time high rpms and not much response. Feels like 50% power. The only reason I'm second guessing it now is because I now have knowledge of limp mode. Does anyone think this is a possibility? Ordering the clutch this weekend and planning on installing it soon. Anybody have any quick pointers other than what I can find in these forums? On a side note. I have replaced all my O2 sensors and i'm still getting P0037 which is passenger side rear sensor. I've read this could be a bad ground. If anyone has any input on this as well, it will be greatly appreciated.

First welcome to the forum. Second JWT clutch/flywheel combo is great. Did it on mine (491 hp) and it is great. Third questions and answers on the forum is what it's all about. Helping each other out.

 

Not to take away from this thread. Is that 491hp to the wheels or to the flywheel? Do you have dyno graph to prove it? That a lot of hp for a stock Vortech.
